Template talk:Brigand-Kings

Template layout

So, this template has always struck me as kind of odd in two respects:

  1. Sorting. Sure, I see that all the categories are individually sorted alphabetically, but the thing is, each flag and every trinket are associated with a specific Brigand King, so why are they all lumped together?
  2. Crews. A bit of a lesser issue, but where are the BK crews?

There's no talk page here, so I've been unable to determine any sort of past justification for this layout, though I do kinda see the BK crews aren't too important. In any case, I've created an alternate layout here. It... needs work, but it's a start. For one thing, sorting the BKs in columns has suddenly introduced a reliance on the width of the template to make it look pretty. Perhaps we could do it in rows instead, rather like Wikipedia's related-pages navbox templates. For example. I'll whip up a version of it like that at some point, but I'm out of time at the moment. Thoughts? --Belthazar451 06:52, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Here we go: version 2.0 --Belthazar451 08:45, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
While I'm definitely not against seeing a new version of this template, neither of the versions you have created are helping me but some simple formatting in version 2.0 might help that. I think. It just looks too cluttered for me. -- Cedarwings (talk) 11:46, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, they're both just "look what I can do in two minutes of planning and twenty minutes of grunt work" - they could both do with a bit more work. Possibly reducing the font size and/or changing the pipe dividers for bullets or something else might be a start. And some tweaking of the colours so the contrast isn't quite so high. --Belthazar451 11:53, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Something like the Wikipedia Navbar would be nice, just need a easier layout. Currently I am not going to vote here, (If I am allowed to vote of course) It would be something Similar. Why not recreate the Navbox over here. I was going to do a developer template for the Dev's pages, but we dont have that over here. Copying the origanal over would be nice :) --Lcawte 16:55, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
We're not up to voting - nowhere near that. I'm just posting suggestions and looking for more suggestions in exchange. --Belthazar451 04:21, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I made some tweaks in order to de-clutter v2.0 a bit, but can't work out quite how to make the font smaller. That said, given the almost-complete lack of comments in the last six days, I'm thinking people just don't have the same issues with the current template as I do. In any case, I'm going away for a fortnight starting tomorrow, so I guess I can just leave it for people to stew over (or continue ignoring =Þ ) and resume campaigning when I get back. --Belthazar451 08:00, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Still looks a bit cluttered. I might try and recreate the Wiki Navbox thing in my user name space and try with that. --Lcawte 08:26, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
I made the text smaller. Not sure what you mean by "recreate the wiki navbox", since what I've got there is essentially a copy of the format but tweaked somewhat. I've also got some other comments by two hearties. One suggested a tab-like system, so it only shows the trinkets for the BK you're currently looking at. Not really sure how that'd be done without sub-templates, and sub-templates can get kinda painful. He was rather blunt about it too. The other hearty said she felt mentioning the trinkets at all was superfluous. The current template is actually longer than the individual BK trinket pages - to give an example. Since my proposed template is taller, it'd only make things worse. I think it's prettier, though. Would kind of appreciate more constructiveness in comments. "Looks good, but...". For example. --Belthazar451 10:12, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
It looks better. Though, personally I do think the crews and Flags were better in to old one, but the trinkets are an improvement :) --Lcawte 11:50, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Remove the bleu from the background, you can't see any links now Captainpk

More like, you can't see any links. You're the first person to mention having any problems. Do you have something set funny? Wiki settings, monitor brightness, number of colours, et cetera? --Belthazar451 07:41, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Hm, color choices and readability is a tricky field. It's not that we presented the current version to a large audience before implementing it. --Alfwyn 11:34, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
