War chest percentage

The last empirical data I've seen is 25%. If you have reason to believe it's 50%, please cite something from the devs or a governor. Thanks. --Barrister 15:20, 23 September 2005 (PDT)

The edit was made based on this thread. Though the possibility just sprang to mind that different sized islands get different war chest %s. --Thunderbird 15:31, 23 September 2005 (PDT)
Poseidon petition: "Ahoy, it's the 50% believers that win the argument!" – Yaten talk 21:02, 23 September 2005 (PDT)
I really love when stuff like this is announced. Grn. --Barrister 22:54, 23 September 2005 (PDT)
Further evidence from Misery of Crimson Tide, it's 25% [1]. Xi's war chest was 200k, not 100k. Sorry Poseidon.--Vurogj 07:23, 30 September 2005 (PDT)
See part where it's possibly different for different sized islands. The 50% that I remember was for an outpost. --Thunderbird 08:11, 30 September 2005 (PDT)
We'll see how outposts fare this weekend if Conglin on Cobalt is defended. – Yaten talk 15:24, 30 September 2005 (PDT).
We get an answer on this? Or should I go find the governer of Conglin on Cobalt to see how much they got? --Thunderbird 13:39, 2 October 2005 (PDT)
I haven't been able to catch the governor yet—I found her once, but there was no response to my /tell. – Yaten talk 13:51, 2 October 2005 (PDT)
Update: found her -- it's 50%. – Yaten talk 16:34, 13 October 2005 (PDT)
So is it different for the different island sizes then? --Guppymomma 10:42, 18 October 2005 (PDT)
Outposts and large islands, at least, are the same. – Yaten talk 13:48, 18 October 2005 (PDT)
Large islands are 25%, see above.--Vurogj 13:54, 18 October 2005 (PDT)

Now all we need is someone to find out the percentage for medium islands. --Barrister 02:56, 21 October 2005 (PDT)

If anybody wants to give me an island in order to test this, feel free to do so. --Ihope127 10:54, 18 December 2005 (PST)
No need for that ;) From the last Kent blockade:
[17:21:54] The blockade is over, Isle of Kent was successfully defended.
[17:31:53] Shodan says, "37500 to the fort from the blockade"
--Zava 13:47, 18 December 2005 (PST)
That's 50% of the Kent war chest. So it appears to be the same for outposts and medium islands. Interesting. --Thunderbird 13:52, 18 December 2005 (PST)

Killermorgan's recent reverted edit brings up an interesting possibility. Note the fact that our 25% quote was from Midnight, and the others were from other oceans. Midnight's a bit of an oddball in terms of blockade warchests, in that it's the only ocean where population of the island affects the warchest cost. Perhaps the war chest percentage dropped in the coffers is 25% on Midnight and 50% on the other oceans? Food for thought. --Thunderbird 10:17, 20 January 2006 (PST)

I left a note on Killermorgan's talk page to join us here. Let's wait and see what he says. Otherwise, I'll consider the Kent war chest to be definitive. --Barrister 11:46, 20 January 2006 (PST)
According to Avernus, the tribute dropped in the Sake coffers (from the sink-off) was 62,500, which is 50% the standard large island warchest. --Thunderbird 21:54, 21 January 2006 (PST)
And from Terra, Antix reports that 125k was dropped in the coffers.[2] Take note that two flags dropped on the island, however. Edited the article to account for this, and the fact that the population bit seems to only apply to Midnight (Tigerleaf's chest on Viridian is 125k, and the population is 5907). --Thunderbird 17:54, 22 January 2006 (PST)

Speaking for Midnight only. I can guarentee that at Meke, the tribute we've received is 6,250 PoE (which is 25% of an Outpost War Chest 25k). For Emperor during the December 3rd blockade, the tribute was 18,750, not 37,500. And Large islands is 25% as well as I've confirmed that enough times with Spring.

And this is per contender. So if you have 2 Flags drop on you, then yes you get 2 25% tribute, but it's noted as a single entry in the Building Logs.

I'm sorry I don't have screenshot proof, but I'll try to do it when/if we get blockaded again.

Thanks, Killermorgan. I think we've concluded that it's 25% for islands on Midnight, and 50% everywhere else. Your data points reinforce that. --Barrister 11:59, 29 January 2006 (PST)

Doesn't mention the newest ocean (Hunter). Is this also 50%? --Pauling 12:46, 5 September 2006 (PDT)

I would assume so. Though, as I have never had the fortune to be the governor of a defended island on my ocean, I cannot tell for sure. --Flamer 07:16, 18 December 2006 (PST)

Midnight appears to be running at 50% now. Darksand reported that 62,500 was dropped in the Jorvik palace coffers after the blockade there.--Thunderbird 04:17, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Population

Looking at the notice boards, population doesn't seem to be a factor in warchest costs for even Midnight any more. Guava with 1156 inhabitants had the standard 125k chest cost. Maybe it was eliminated after one of the "no blockade" weekends? --Thunderbird 19:37, 22 March 2007 (PDT)

It's at 130k now with 1201 pirates homed there. Weird. --Thunderbird 18:06, 8 April 2007 (PDT)

Release 2023-09-22 updates

There's some information the release notes make a passing mention of, but don't go into specifics. Specifically:

  • When an attacker wins a blockade with multiple attackers, is the 50% win the entire war chest pool, or just their own?
  • Where does the attacker war chest go? (I suppose it could go into the fort/palace, just like the defender one does, since the attacker just won the island...)
  • Are the base costs listed here still the same?

There's probably some other details to look at, but that's all I can think of at this point in time. --Thunderbird (talk) 15:35, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
