Does this count as an unnecessary redirect? --Thefirstdude 12:14, 8 February 2007 (PST)

I dunno... I hate it when I type something into the search box that I know actually exists and it comes up with the search results. When that happens, I tend to not think of it as unnecessary. I'd rather it went straight to the page, since that's what the user was looking for, anyway. Sashamorning 14:14, 8 February 2007 (PST)
The redirect here is fine. The wiki is case sensitive if the first letter capitalization the words is mixed. In this case, from what I recall, you'd only get to On the Rocks if you searched for On the Rocks. Not if you searched for on the rocks. --Guppymomma 14:45, 8 February 2007 (PST)
Okies, thanks for the clarification. I do understand that the wiki search is case-sensitive (which is ridiculous, in my humble opinion), however I have seen many like pages deleted for "unnecessary redirect" and never been entirely sure why. Maybe an addition to the Policies & Guidelines is in order? --Thefirstdude 15:30, 8 February 2007 (PST)
There's no need to make policies for the sake of making policies. With redirects there is some wiggle room. If you look, the unnecessary redirects are pages that have been moved to the correct name/correctly capitalized name. There is no issue with searching for pages where the entire title is title cased (first letter capitalized) and when the title only has the first word's first letter capitalized. As I mentioned above this is only an issue with mixed capitalization titles. --Guppymomma 16:11, 8 February 2007 (PST)
