Talk:Jezus

From YPPedia

NPOV tag

I'm of the opinion that some of the claims on this page do not fit NPOV standards -- things like "Unless you're making fun of people who mindlessly follow a religion they were born into and feverishly defend it without considering other alternatives, of course..." (which, to me, doesn't belong in an encyclopedia period, no matter how you rephrase it), "Owns a fat estate on Terra Island other pirates might ask themselves: "Who is your decorator? David Bromstadt?".", and all of the "accomplishments" -- do we really need to know that he can count to five in Spanish? Personally I vote no. --glor, as usual 21:07, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

and this page is any better?... http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/User:Gloraelin ...from what i see, it's not written in a neutral third person. i mean, how self engratiating is: "I am a brutal(ly good) XO and MAA..." and what encyclopedic value does: "Also, I want a purple octopus to rest on my shoulder and call 'Squishy.' Just like Dory," have? (although i do realize it is a "user" page, it's still in the yppedia.) there is value in humor and entertainment, like a good non-fiction novel, when it keeps the readers interest and makes reading something worthwhile and fun. you may not care to know that jezus can count to 5 in spanish, but apparently talking in pirate code is a valuable piece of information: "!A LB-| Sk+ Zm- !Ult D!! User pages are not subject to these policies, so therefore such tags don't apply to them. --Thunderbird 21:24, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
As you may or may not have noticed, a User: page is for the user to use as they see fit. It does not have to be neutral, in fact they are encouraged to be NOT neutral. Look at any of the administrator's User: pages. A User: page does not have to be neutral, period, end of story. The entry for Jezus is in the main namespace and therefore must, by definition, be neutral and NPOV.
Nice work pulling my userpage into a neutrality debate though. Good job. --glor, as usual 21:27, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

pretty sure i covered that in the statement: (although i do realize it is a "user" page, it's still in the yppedia.) --- still making a point of being lame.

It is still irrelevant to the fact that this page has NPOV issues. --Thunderbird 22:51, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
yes, i'm sure you can dumb-down and make your world as dull and uncreative as you like; be my guest. republican, by chance?
That question is highly inappropriate and has no bearing to the discussion at hand. --glor, as usual 01:00, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
then don't take it personally.

Let's keep this discussion to the issue at hand - this particular article is not written from a neutral point of view. It is an article, and not a user page - therefore it must follow the rules and policies for articles. Whether or not you find someone's user page "lame" is irrelevant. Whether or not you think the rules are uncreative is irrelevant. Please stop the personal attacks, and discuss this issue in a manner that is respectful to other contributors. my point is, as touched on in the profile... typically those in conservative roles will target and discriminate against me because of the use of the name jezus. hence: "republican?" it's bene my experience that people go out of their way to explain that it is morally sinister to use such a name. the NPOV tag itself and discussion thereafter likely traced to that root cause. for being made of 16% of the world population, it's always "ok" to pick on the non-religious type. used to it.

Again - irrelevant. I couldn't care less what your name is, and this discussion has nothing to do with your name. Perhaps you could read the first comment on this page again, as it outlines some of the reasons why this page is considered not have a neutral point of view. You might also like to have a read of the YPPedia:Policies and guidelines. Adrielle ♥ =) 23:36, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

If people go out of their way to discriminate against you for the name you use, feel free to point out that Jesus (pronounced "hay-zoos") is an extremely common given name in Spanish-speaking countries. Also, it's the Greek form of the Jewish name Joshua. You'll notice, however, that not one single person here has had issue with your name - in fact, the only time it got brought up at all was in its use as the title of the article. You can trust me on this, because (among other things) Australia doesn't have a Republican party. In the end, though, this is irrelevant to the issue at hand - please stop skirting the issue by casting aspersions at people. --Belthazar451 01:08, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Testimonials

I have removed the "testimonials" section from this page for several reasons.

  • As noted on the talk page for the Talk:POKEMON_JOKE_HOUR!!!/archive, adding a "testimonials" section is not in any way, shape, or form encyclopedic.
  • Talk of a room and/or house being "sexy" is, again, not language befitting an encyclopedia.
  • The references to "Tyrone" and "Orangejello" are, by most considerations, names that have highly racial overtones, and will be, to a number of people, highly offensive. See this page for examples of why it's troublesome.

This page needs to have serious work put into cleaning it up and ensuring it is appropriate for the YPPedia, instead of just adding new content that violates the YPPedia:Policies and guidelines. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gloraelin (talkcontribs)
