Number of Carpentry/Patching stations
The ship information box lists this ship as having two carpentry stations (as is typical for sloops) but the screenshots and special item lists show two stations in the hold, and one on the main deck. I've never known a ship to have more physical stations than can be used simultaneously, except for Guns, which are a special case. Can anyone confirm the number of carpentry stations that can be used at any given time, on this ship? --Ladodal 17:16, 1 August 2012 (PDT)
- I've confirmed with OMs that this was a bug; all new gold class sloops will not have the extra carp station, so we should probably get updated screenshots from somebody who just bought one. --Fannon 08:15, 2 August 2012 (PDT)
- Question -- does this mean that all previously-bought ships will retain this defect? (I.e. they're to be "grandfathered"?) If so, that could make them somewhat "collectible". ;-) Just sayin'... -- Franklincain (t/c) 09:51, 2 August 2012 (PDT)
- It's pretty much always been the case that ships (or scenes in general, but it's most noticeable with ships) with minor bugs or historical prop sets keep their unusual content, while newer versions of the same are updated. (Obviously, this isn't the case if the bug presents a significant play advantage; so I'm assuming that in this particular case there were three stations, but only two could be used at any given time.) See also: ships that came with game tables before player-purchasable furniture was introduced.
- I seem to recall a ship (I think this was on Ice and we caught it before production) where one of the carpentry boxes was placed facing the wall. I think they left it, since the bug didn't make the station unusable. (Edit: Yep. It was the Dhow. This can still be seen in the Main Deck image.) I'm pretty sure that changing the existing ones would involve physically changing each existing ship. Like, by standing on it and arranging the furniture. And OMs have previously stated that whisking to ships is a bit of a crap-shoot wherein they whisk to a ship by name, and if they get the wrong ship that's a name-twin of what they were aiming for, they try again. Headache and a half.
- Collectability will depend on whether or not people feel that they are collectable and choose to make them so, but maybe! Just make sure you inspect any Gold class sloops before you buy one off of somebody, and perhaps you'll get lucky. --Ladodal 13:01, 2 August 2012 (PDT)
- Ew, that seems kind of broken. You would think they could just tweak the database. In fact it was tweaked when the cutter's hold size was increased. They specially mentioned that they had written a script to go through and change all the existing ones. Perhaps it is just too much of a pain to design custom scripts for minor issues. - /em shrugs
- Although hold capacity seems like more of a database thing than the removal of (what is essentially more-or-less) furniture, so maybe that was easier. I know that a couple of years ago a glitch prevented the temporary snow furniture you can buy from the palace shop from "melting" and someone (Ceph, maybe?) had to sit there and "reclaim" every single piece of furniture, one at a time, through an interface very much like the Reclaim Furniture interface available to players. But that was relatively easy, because ALL snow furniture was set to melt, whereas only a miniscule percentage of carpentry stations are wrong. I have no idea what the code looks like; if each carpentry station on a ship is unique or if they're all the same or if each one on the ocean is unique...
- As long as there aren't a few rare Gold sloops out there capable of repairing themselves 33% faster than other sloops, I can see letting it slide. (Although I'm sure it causes a few headaches for pillage leaders. "Zomg why won't it let me carp!!one!") Although I do agree we should probably get new screenshots. (And new images for the aforementioned Dhow, if only because the existing ones... aren't full size.) --Ladodal 18:03, 2 August 2012 (PDT)
