Talk:Gladiators
I started a Gladiators stub, but I honestly couldn't go into much detail simply because I didn't know much about them. Tried to keep it unbiased, but my view of the Gladiators was most definitely one sided, so I might not have gotten stuff like their goals / founding intentions / etc exactly right. Anyone can feel free to edit what I posted, or just erase it entirely and start from scratch. I just felt the stub should be there, based on some discussion in the NF:talk page. - Looseweed
- There is quite a bit of information on Misery's page that could be used to flush out at least the original version of the crew. I can try to dig up some more information about the anti-Fandango version, though I'm not sure it will be much more than the stub version. --Fannon 19:08, 16 July 2007 (PDT)
- I actually did read through Misery's info on Gladiators from her page before writing this stub, but didn't feel I was qualified to comment further because I felt I didn't know enough to do it justice. If you want to help clean this up, there's a draft paragraph over on the NF page about Gladiators that might need some wiki cleanup too - feel free to take a look at it also. I'm not the best wiki guy. --Looseweed 9:22, 26 July 2007 (EDT)
Rough draft put here for commentary, because Looseweed's right about the quality of his draft...
"""""" Gladiators rose to a brief political prominence as an alt crew, organized by Misery, that attracted members in response to Notorious Fandango's early public efforts, which some labeled extortion. The exact motivation varied from member to member; while many members seemed particularly aggrieved at demands of PoE from small stallowners [as Notorious Fandango targetted all shopkeepers in their demands], as opposed to specifically targetting similarly-sized and experienced flags, others were drawn to the chance to defeat the "rockstar" flag or specific members thereof, or simply to support their friends. Like Notorious Fandango itself, membership was drawn from a number of existing flags; while Notorious Fandango had significantly more players that were known as "rockstars" at the time, the division of skilled players looks more even in retrospect when including Gladiators that became well known in later times.
After the controversial blockade of Remora (Remora IV), and Notorious Fandango's late drop attempt on Ostreum (Ostreum II), attention of both sides was somewhat distracted by the conflict between RAWR and the Scallywag Syndicate. In addition, as Notorious Fandango either dropped or found less offensive ways to continue the more controversial parts of their efforts, the perception of a need to oppose Notorious Fandango en masse diminished, with attendance (as Gladiators) falling as low as six pirates by the time NF blockaded Spring (Spring III).
With the introduction of the Fame mechanic making it more difficult to shuttle the alt crew to whichever flag was defending, the decision was formally made not to continue with Gladiators as an organized opposition to Notorious Fandango ; as the above jobber numbers indicate this was largely a formalization of a de facto situation.
Aside from an overabundance of parley threads, and any effects on Notorious Fandango, the primary legacy of Gladiators was a thaw in relations between islandowners; many of whose previous dealings with each other had primarily been as opponents on the blockade board. """"""""

- I think it looks great.--Looseweed 9:35PM, 8 November 2007 (EST)
- OK. It needs wikification (specifically, adding the appropriate internal links); If I get a pile of free time, I may try to do it, or I may wait and find some wiki-keener who'll take a bribe to do it instead' I'm lazier than I am cheap.--Varthlokkur 04:59, 9 November 2007 (PST)
- I've wikified it. Although it still needs an infobox, if possible. --Featherfin 11:42, 14 November 2007 (PST)
- What do you need for the infobox? The captain was Despair. I can yank up some of the alt names of the people that were crewed, though for various reasons I'm not comfortable using the full alt-main translation table. At this point I can't remember the politics or the ranks below Captain, though Rome might.

There is a new crew called Gladiators. Dont think they should be related to this articel and think the articel should be deleted untill the new crew make a new page.
--Juicebox95 18:40, 27 January 2008 (GMT)
- We are not deleting this article. The new crew may make their page at Gladiators (Midnight). When that happens I'll move this page to Gladiators (Midnight defunct) and change Gladiators to a disambiguation page. --Guppymomma 10:48, 27 January 2008 (PST)
