I reverted Fafdsfr1's changes. If experience for duty puzzles were truly based only on leagues puzzled, then Atlantis, blockades, and flotillas wouldn't increase experience. And it does. --Barrister 13:44, 1 January 2008 (PST)

Sublime rating

Anyone have any idea when this was implemented? I remember when Rifkind's Sea Battle experience was listed as rating.experience.experience10 on the Top 10 list, but I do not remember when it was changed. --Thunderbird 03:52, 14 March 2008 (PDT)

I'm not sure I understand the question. I started on Midnight in its first week or so, and I don't remember a time when we lacked a Sublime rating. --Barrister 12:14, 14 March 2008 (PDT)
Sublime was added when Rifkind hit it in Sea Battle on Azure. Before it had a name, it simply appeared as rating.experience.experience10, which looked rather funny on the top 10 list. But I can't remember when that happened. The rating itself has probably always been in there, but it didn't have a name before. --Thunderbird 21:11, 14 March 2008 (PDT)

I was wondering how exactly experience works. like how long do you have to do the puzzle do go up a lvl.i was wondering about this because i want to know how long it takes me to lvl up in experience in poker. Xenergy Viridian ocean

Taking twice as long

I noticed in the article that it says that it takes twice as long per level, yet when SFing on an alt today it took me 7 SFs to get from a fresh Neophyte to an Apprentice, but 20+ attempts to get to Narrow. It just doesn't seem right that every level is twice as long... especially considering how big the jumps become after you get past broad and solid. ~Chipps on Sage

Did you fight against players or bots? Because the experience you get from fighting bots appears to get less, the more you advance. --Alfwyn 12:12, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
is the Experience based on matches or time??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thelegohead (talkcontribs)
Thelegohead brings up a good question. Hasn't it been determined that for some puzzles, experience is based on number of matches played, and for others it's time in the puzzle? Shouldn't that be added to the article? Chupchup 14:19, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, it hasn't really be determined, as far as I know. The article stated something along that line for a long time (see commented out sentence in the article). But it could be easily shown that (at least) for crafting skills it isn't the number of puzzles played (alone) (see this thread). --Alfwyn 17:57, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Recently changed/modified box

I think we can remove this... I think it is safe to say that the increases to experience are permanent, and thus there remains no need to continue to have this box.Jlh0605 20:11, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Criteria for amount of experience gained

I commented out the criteria for the amount of experience gained, since for crafting puzzles it was plain wrong (see this thread). It was a real quick test that disproved the theory of puzzles completed. That makes me wonder how well researched the other information was and if there isn't some truth to the league points puzzled theory after all (of course that would need to be replaced with something else in different environments).

But it looks a bit like that research in how fast experience is gained exactly is discouraged by OOO, so I wonder if it is worth trying to obtain exact information on the subject. --Alfwyn 21:32, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

The Ringers allow information to the level of what's already on the article - that is, experience is earned by amount of time doing the puzzle, each level is worth roughtly twice the level before, things like that. --Belthazar451 22:06, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Effect on standing

Experience has an effect on the amount of scores needed for a pirate to get one's skill rank up or down. The higher experience the pirate has in a puzzle, the less the score affects the player's skill rank. I do not believe this statement is true. Standing seems to move just fine when you're ranked Sublime, if you choose sessions of short enough duration. I think this is false wisdom, a myth accrued over the years in the forums or something. Anyone mind if I strike it? Chupchup 14:10, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

I think it is at least partially true. For SF/rumble and carousing skills, a newly created character can go up to something like grand master in a single match (if the opponent was ranked highly enough). This isn't possible for a sublime/able pirate. I'm not so sure if it is true for duty and crafting skills.--Alfwyn 17:49, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

I believe it is true as well. I don't know if it's by design or by happenstance (for example, it could just a mathematical artifact of 1 score averaged with 6 scores having more weight per session than 1 score averaged with 100 scores), but my ratings vacillate wildly on new characters but not on old characters. ~ Sweetiepiepi

Update: I believe the original statement was based on Cleaver's statement: http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?p=48703#48703

At the time Cleaver made that post, it was very true (I suspect the system took into account every session you'd ever done at that point). At some point, the system was changed so that high experience players had more fluid ratings. --Thunderbird 04:38, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Experience position showing on leaderboard

I have a Weighty level of Experience for Bnav but I have not been showing on the leaderboard... Is it because I am not a certain rank, like Master+ or something to show on the Experience side? Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 12:26, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

When did you bnav last? It only shows you if you've puzzled in...the last week, I think? Pretty sure it's seven days. --Budclare2 00:02, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
I'd checked when I last bnaved and it didn't show my Weighty placement. I haven't been able to get above Distin lately.... About a week ago, at least, to answer your question. Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 00:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
I'm 99% sure there is a minimum standing required to be on the experience list (plus, as Budclare mentioned, you have to be active in the puzzle). However, I don't know what this cutoff is, though if I had to guess, it'd be Master. Jlh0605 (t/c) 18:16, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
