Talk:Cottontail
Found this page randomly....and I'm not sure what to make of it. Shouldn't it either be considered vanity or added to the familiar winners catergory? Airwoman ros 12:25, 13 February 2006 (PST)
- Yeah. Some of the editors are currently discussing a better, more standard way of dealing with alts, especially considering the frequency with which people will enter familiar contests as an alt. This seems like a good place to throw some ideas around if you have any.--Fiddler 12:28, 13 February 2006 (PST)
- Well, mind you I'm just dipping my toes into the whole wiki experience. I'm seeing several pages that doen't seem to conform to standards (Senior Officers making pages, etc). For this page in particular it seems as though allowing it would be opening a door for allowing others who buy familiars from other pirates to create pages as well, as she didn't win the familiar per se. Also the wording is a bit, well, "look at me" for a lack of a better word. (I have a feeling I'm opening up floodgates on my pages ^ - ^). Airwoman ros 12:35, 13 February 2006 (PST)
- Actually, this one qualifies because the familiar was purchased directly from the Ringers, not from another player. --Barrister 13:02, 13 February 2006 (PST)
- But Cottontail didn't. The acheivement of earning the familiar is already on Flopsy's page. Should Cottontail and Flopsy be merged, with a reference of Cottontail on Flopsy instead of having two pages? ie "Flopsy's main character is Cottontail, who has also placed 3rd in a backoff" Why have two seperate pages when Cottontail herself isn't noteworthy? - That would be the discussion part. I'm partial to consolidating it all into the Cottontail article and redirecting Flopsy to here (article under the main pirate name, redirect from the alt name). For reference, here's a few other similar cases (and the start of another conversation on this subject):
With so many people entering familiar contests under alt names, how do we want to handle these situations?
Snakeeye - who has practically a different name on each ocean. Currently all mentions of her link directly to her one article.
Saelin - Shur has won a familiar under a different name on each ocean, but has made no secret about them being him. Currently we're re-directing from the alt names to his main article.
Scott - Also known as Elvynd. He's won two familars under each name. Currently the articles just link to each other.
Flopsy - The admitted alt of somebody who otherwise wouldn't have an article. Right now both articles link to each other.
Do we want to craft a set method for linking to admitted alts of more famous pirates? Or should we continue to handle them on a case by case basis?

- I think it should be up to the pirate. However, if they admit to the names of their alts, then all alts should be redirected to the main pirate, or perhaps, the pirate that would be the reason for the article. I think case I think Flopsy is the only pirate who should have an article, with a redirect from this one to Flopsy. Is there an easier way to redirect? Something within the article that would still ping during a search? "Flopsy, also known as Cottontail" or "Crimson Tide, also known as CT" Airwoman ros 13:49, 13 February 2006 (PST)
