I realise that I'm deeply allergic to the wiki and all it stands for, and I am currently trying to overcome that prejudice. Now, while I can understand to some extent the anal necessity for third person description (although I didn't see anything on the instructions pages saying it), what on earth is the justification for removing actual content from what WE have decided to say about OUR crew? Phrases have been removed that had no offensive content and no first person. I'd sincerely like an explanation for this overediting. I didn't see anything in the crew template instructions on structure or style, other than the info box, and nothing to suggest that first person is dirty and wrong, or guidelines on style that would cause these parts to be deleted by a stranger. The editing I was expecting to do after this first attempt was to tidy up, have links added where appropriate, add the info box once I was somewhere with access to the game, etc. Right now, I just want to delete, because random editors should not be making rulings on non-offensive content.

Ahoy, CC! While I didn't remove any text, I did add the {{third person}} tag. YPPedia is meant to be like an encyclopedia about Puzzle Pirates. All crew and flag information should be presented like you'd find in an encyclopedia, and that's in the third person, not the first person. BSP's being held to the same standard as all other pages (although I'm sure we haven't caught them all).

As for the deletion of text, I'm not really sure. It'd be good if Pevarnj would weigh in on it, since he/she made the changes. The bottom line, though, is that every contributor should expect that their submissions will be edited to some degree. The higher quality of the original article (as was the case for your page here), the fewer edits necessary. But there will always be some edits. --Barrister 15:23, 23 January 2006 (PST)

I accept (not agree with, just accept) the concept of third person. I can support the concept for the factual areas of the site, but I think for the personal areas of the YPPedia, it's a mistake, as it loses the character and individuality of so many entries. Whatever it looks like, this site is NOT Wikipedia. It's a site about a game and a bunch of people who play it. However, I accept your third-person ruling. It would have saved me time and upset if the third-person ruling was mentioned anywhere in the "create a crew template" instructions, because at the moment I can't find any YPPedia guidelines that say it's wrong. Perhaps they exist, but if I didn't find them, perhaps they're not obvious enough.

What I don't understand is the removal of non-third-person phrases. For example, the comment about Jynantonyk. It was written in the third-person and it was a snippet of information that WE felt was worth including in OUR crew history.

Whatever you do, don't use elephants on your page. The comment Jynantonyk is pertaining to Jyn and is only tangentally related to British Sea Power in that he's part of 'em. At least that's my guess on why it was zapped. If Jyn qualifies for an individual pirate article, something like that bit would be a nifty historical factoid. Or if he doesn't a note on his user page. The only personal areas of YPPedia are the user pages and those're prefaced by User: (called the User namespace), like User:Yaten. Pretty much everything else should be encyclopedialike. Speaking of the create a crew template doohickey, a crew infobox would be pretty and shiny. --Guppymomma 16:18, 23 January 2006 (PST)

Jyn's already done the crew info box, I think. As far as the Jyn(antonyk) name is concerned, he's the second oldest (by a matter of seconds) member of the crew, and it seems a reasonable thing to include as a bit of crew trivia.
