This is a tutorial made for people who want to start their career as a pirate well. Even if you are not a greenie, you may still want to read it because it has good information on being a good pirate. I have divided it into sections so you can go only to sections that you find interesting instead of reading the whole thing. Starting your career well is one of the most important things a pirate can do.

Ground Rules

Here are some basic should-do and should-not-dos. They apply to all pirates, not just greenies. It is especially important for greenies to follow these because not following one of them can mess up your career.

You should never...

  • wager more than you can lose.
  • trust any stranger pirate with your poe and items, only lend your poe and items to those you know and trust. Sadly, the pirate world is filled with scammers.
  • run a pillage without knowing you have enough for restock.
  • borrow poe without knowing you will have enough to repay it within the amount of time you promised. ( If you did not promise a time, try to pay it back within a reasonable time. )
  • lie.
  • steal.
  • break any of the rules.

You should always...

  • respect other pirates. ( Especially Ocean Masters, captains, royalty of your flag, and all ranked above you. )
  • try to be kind to pirates ranked below you too. ( Who knows, they might make a great captain someday. )
  • try your best when puzzling.
  • act as your captain would expect you to when interacting with high-ranked officers and captains of other crews.
  • PTB when boarding a crew vessel

Finding a crew

One of the most important components of starting your pirate career well is finding a good crew. Here are some things you should look for when selecting a crew:

  • that they don't award high ranks too easily.
  • that the captain and high-ranked officers all have good stats.
  • it is not always best for you to start out with small crews, try signing up with big crews for a while then move on to smaller ones if you wish.

Earning your way up in the ranks

When you first join a crew, don't expect to be immediately a high rank. Remember you are just a beginner. If you want to be a higher rank, work towards the goals set. If you meet all of the goals, just ask. If one of the goals is trust, don't ask! This rank will be awarded when the crew trusts you. It will take time and patience but it will pay off greatly.

How to be a good officer

If you ever achieve the rank of officer in the game, it is important for you to follow these rules at all times:

  • Try to run a pillage at least once a week. If you do more, that is even better.
  • Act like your captain would want you too, even when he is offline.
  • Set a good example for the rest of the crew.
  • Lead your pillages well, don't tolerate lazers and pirates who refuse to do as they are told. To plank them, use this command: /plank pirates name who you want to plank.
