Pirates are we, but we hold to the tenets of decency, fraternity, and honesty. We are the Star Explorers, and we welcome ye! +*+*+*+* We are an extremely long standing and private crew however we're happy to help you out with advice and support.
Crew articles
Star Oceans Apart enforces two key rules:
- If an officer or above calls for crew members to board a ship for a pillage - YOU ARE EXPECTED TO RESPOND. Playing poker or other parlor games are not considered 'reasons' for not pillaging. If you plan on playing poker for the entire time you are online, SOA is probably not the crew for you.
- Please ask permission to board vessels. We ask this as sometimes boats are being 'floated' from one island to another, stock is being shipped or an officer is 'memming' a sea route. In all of these instances, the officer in charge will be actively avoiding battles, therefore you are not likely to earn any poe. You do not need to ask PTB for a ship that is actively calling for crew.
Promotion requirements
Star Oceans Apart has promotion guidelines as follows:
- Cabin person: You may ask to join the crew at port, preferably after a pillage. Do not ask during battle.
- Pirate: Minimum of Apprentice experience in carp, bilge and sail. It is preferable that you have achieved a puzzle standing of master on at least one of these.
If you wish to become an officer in this crew, get to know the Fleet and Senior officers. Any FO or SO can promote to officer. If you wish to become an FO or SO, you will need to speak to the Promotions Board, which are Kraggard, Seinfeld, and Grzpil. Promotion can happen fairly quickly, but please don't expect to join the crew as FO or SO. We want to get to know you first. Any FO or SO that promotes to officer is expected to post the promotion in crew news. If you are being promoted, it might be a good idea to remind the promoting officer to post it so that it sticks!

Crew legend
In the time of the dreaming, there was quiet across the land and the sea. From the stars, the first emerged. She was whimsical and affecting to the heart of those around her. She was Kalani.
In her travels through the celestial skies, she became fond of walking through the clouds and chose to surround herself in their comfort. One day, Kalani chose a cloud of the purest white and settled for rest. Unbeknownst to the beautiful Goddess of the stars, a storm was brewing. The cloud of purest white grew dark and heavy and the skies became filled with thunder and lightning. Kalani awoke with a start and was immediately frightened, then calmed by the vision of an angel. However she was mistaken - this was not an angel, but instead, the brave and devoted spirit of the clouds - Allirra.
Allirra and Kalani escaped to the land to shelter from the lightning and the driving rains. They found a cavern in a mountainous range which was protected by a giant boulder. The women, though strong enough to move the heavens, were unable to shift the boulder. Allirra whispered to the clouds and pleaded for a break to the storm, but it continued unabated. Kalani let out a tiny cry hoping that someone may hear them and help - and someone did. It was Buzz, the strong and powerful lord of the mountains.
Buzz lifted the boulder and hurled it off the mountain, opening the cavern for the three to shelter within until the storm passed. Many hours later, the skies were clear and the three ventured out of the cave and toward the forest below. Once within the thick of the forest, the trio were unable to find their way and became lost.
Buzz, the strong, broke some trees to mark the way they had already been. Allirra, the brave, led the three deeper through the forest, toward the ocean they had seen from the mountain. Kalani walked between Allirra and Buzz - she could sense something but said nothing. After some time, Allirra stopped suddenly. She exclaimed "Alas, we are travelling in circles - Here is a tree already broken by Buzz". But Kalani was not convinced. She looked up into the trees and noticed movement. Kalani said to her travelling companions, "There is someone watching us. She is clever, though cautious. I feel that she will help us." Out of the tree appeared Lezah, who said, "Yes my Queen, I will help, though my presence will be a secret to you at times."
The four traveled together out of the forest. At the edge of the trees, a noise surrounded them. Allirra, Buzz and Lezah looked to each other asking, "Whatever is that rumbling noise?" One walked forward. It was Kalani. She said "It is the ocean. It is calling me. I am home".
