The Puzzle Embiggening Project

The Puzzle Embiggening Project is a game update focused on increasing the display resolution of puzzle artwork to improve playability on modern computer systems. The project began with the game’s puzzles, which were described by the developers as the most important part of the game.

The update introduced four additional puzzle resolution settings, allowing players to scale puzzle displays beyond the standard size, up to 200 percent of the default "classic" resolution. Gameplay mechanics remained unchanged.

Puzzle size can be adjusted through a dropdown menu from "Graphics" tab.

Players can adjust puzzle size through a dropdown menu in the Options panel under the Graphics tab. The default display size remains 100 percent, but it can be increased for larger puzzle visuals. The same graphics settings also allow players to enlarge in-game text that scales independently.

At the time of release, the new scaling options had been applied to puzzles, duty interfaces, the shoppe, and roister features, though the project remained a work in progress. Developers continued refining the appearance of many puzzle-related visual assets to improve their quality at larger sizes. Some interface elements and art assets, including tutorial puzzle art, the notice board, and various menus, had not yet been fully updated. Priority was initially given to duty puzzles and the core visual components of each puzzle, meaning some smaller details and certain puzzles had not yet undergone full revision.

To support larger puzzle sizes, the update also introduced a more flexible user interface. Players gained the ability to resize different areas of the interface by dragging panel boundaries, increasing the amount of space available for sections such as chat and the Sunshine panel. The chat area, Sunshine sidebar, puzzle sidebar, and in-world text were made to scale independently, and text automatically enlarged as interface sections were expanded. In addition, panels and dialogue windows throughout the game were updated to resize in order to accommodate larger text.

Although the interface became more flexible, the overall game environment itself remained at its original resolution. According to the developers, increasing the resolution of the main environment would have required extensive revision of existing artwork and could have resulted in a reduction in visual quality. Keeping the environment at the same resolution also allowed players to enlarge the game window while displaying a broader view of the game world.
