Desertion

Desertion is a broad term used to describe the act of a person abandoning their place of duty with no intent of returning.
The term deserter is sometimes be applied to a pirate who has left their duty station and abandoned ship; a pirate who has left a crew (see crew hopper) or flag; or a flag that has dropped out of an alliance at a time deemed critical, for instance with blockades or war approaching.
