The Crimson Ocean was a family ocean which opened on July 1, 2009. There were three archipelagos, each with eighteen islands, five large, five medium, (with the exception of Onyx with six large and four medium) and eight outposts for a total of fifty-four islands. It had the same geography as the Cobalt and Viridian Oceans. The Crimson Ocean was shut down on March 31, 2011, due to lack of popularity. [1]
Family Oceans
No longer available, Family oceans were intended to be appropriate for players of all ages: kid pirates and adult pirates alike. They worked like doubloon oceans, but had stricter restrictions on chat between players, as well as some other changes that made them more appropriate to younger pirates.

Ocean History
Crimson was the first family ocean opened, as much as an experiment as anything, announced on 2009-06-25 [2].
On March 2, 2011, Three Rings announced that the family ocean experiment had not worked, and the Crimson Ocean would be closed down, partly so that Three Rings could devote more attention to a new game being produced. As part of the shutdown, the doubloon exchange was disabled and doubloon delivery fees were no longer charged. Starting from March 4, accounts which had played on the Crimson Ocean were offered a trophy for one pirate on any other ocean. The Crimson Ocean closed permanently on March 31, 2011. [3]
