Avatar Naming

Ahoy! You've uploaded several avatars with very common names. Please re-upload them using our preferred naming scheme. For example, if I created an avatar for Guppymomma, it would be named Avatar-Guppymomma-Barrister.png. (Note: The last word is the *forum name* of the creator.) Please let me know if you have any questions. --Barrister 17:32, 12 December 2006 (PST)

Arrr! My apologies! Thank ye for the information. :) --Lilly 8:19, 13 December 2006 (EST)

Opal Ocean

Ahoy! Please note that articles about the Opal Ocean (other than a general summary at Opal Ocean) should only be put on the German-language wiki. Further, those articles should be written in German, not English. Thank you! --Barrister 14:03, 13 December 2006 (PST)

All of my Opal stuff is in the Sandbox. I thought that was the place for messing around? I'm starting to think I just don't belong here. :) --Lilly 17:35, 13 December 2006 (EST)
Whoops! I wasn't referring to the Sandbox but rather the Skellie Hunters page for Opal. --Barrister 18:52, 13 December 2006 (PST)
Oh yes, that! :) Guppymomma had chided me about that earlier so I assumed it had already been deleted. Hopefully I'm getting the hang of this and I won't cause you too much extra work! --Lilly 22:22, 13 December 2006 (EST)

Image deletion tags

Hidey ho. Thanks for keeping watch over repeat images, it's very helpful. When you tag things for deletion, just put the note (or deletion tag) on the image page itself unless you think it is a controversial request for deletion. That way you don't end up creating an image talk page just for it to be deleted along with the image page as well. Thanks! --Guppymomma 21:47, 19 December 2006 (PST)

I tried that but my delete tag was removed, so I thought I must have done it the wrong way - leading me to then go and do things the wrong way! Harrrr! :) One day, I will do things right, really! --Lilly 00:51, 20 December 2006 (EST)
On a related note, I'm revamping the portrait item page. That's why there are duplicates of some of those images. Once I move User:Barrister/Sandbox4 over to its new location, then I'll clean up the duplicates. For now, though, the existing page references one version, and my Sandbox references the other. --Barrister 22:40, 19 December 2006 (PST)
Ah, I didn't realize that. I just saw the new uploaded images and thought there had been an error in duplication. I'll stay away from that page then. I need to find something safe and harmless to meddle with... --Lilly 13:17, 20 December 2006 (EST)
something safe and harmless to meddle with If you feel inclined, every article in Category:Terminology and Category:Gameplay could use illustrations of some sort. If you don't feel like taking hundreds of screenshots yourself the next best thing would be to use the {{needs illustration}} (Usage) template to mark what each article needs. As you mark the articles, they'll be added to Category:Illustration needed so others can do the work of assembling the screenshots.--Fiddler 10:26, 20 December 2006 (PST)
That would be the ideal project for me. Thanks! I'll take a look at it and see what I can do as soon as I'm done foraging. ;) If ever you have a particular project you really want done, feel free to post a note to me about it. I have far too much time on my hands at the moment. :P I realize there are many places where "needy" pages are listed, but that doesn't always tell me which ones are most in need or which would most benefit the community. --Lilly 13:35, 20 December 2006 (EST)
You might want to take a look at YPPedia:Wishlist for "most wanted" projects. Also, feel free to add to that list. --Barrister 15:33, 20 December 2006 (PST)

Thanks!

For uploading the missing images for the different shoppes! :-) --Sagacious (talk) 08:45, 21 December 2006 (PST)

My pleasure! :) --Lilly 11:47, 21 December 2006 (EST)

Tailor images

Thanks fer yer work on the Tailor templatey things! Would you like me to upload the images for it or are you all eager to do that? --Sagacious (talk) 09:52, 22 December 2006 (PST)

Heehee! I have them ready to go. ;) I'll get that done right now. Durned side-tracking YPPedia... :) --Lilly 12:56, 22 December 2006 (EST)

Talk page spam++

For finding all pages in yer userspace - you can always use this link --Sagacious (talk) 10:12, 22 December 2006 (PST)

Thanks! I keep learning stuff here. :) That could be a good thing, or that could mean I'm not reading enough wikipedia help pages, in which case I am very embarrassed! --Lilly 13:17, 22 December 2006 (EST)
Nah, it's my one of my ubercool discoveries over recent times :-) --Sagacious (talk) 11:16, 22 December 2006 (PST)

Image tags

Ahoy! A time-saving tip: You can tag an image when you upload it rather than editing it after the upload is done. And thanks for all your hard work! --Barrister 22:57, 25 December 2006 (PST)

Yay! Thanks for the tip! I can be a bit of a slow learner... heh :) --Lilly 2:46, 25 December 2006 (EST)

Forum contests

Ahoy. When you're creating archives of forum art or writing contests, you should create the article in the Art: namespace, a la Art:Pirates of the Caribbean spoof video contest. Also, I'm sure you've seen most of these already but there's a large list of contests that I archived last year on my User: page, User:Fiddler#Wiki_things_to_work_on. Thanks for your help, you're doing great.

Also, a correction for above: What Barrister told you about art and avatar image naming was almost correct, what he should have written was: For example, if I created an avatar for Guppymomma, it would be named Avatar-Barrister-Guppymomma.png. (Note: The second word is the *forum name* of the creator.) Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope this clears it up.--Fiddler 20:04, 29 December 2006 (PST)

Ah, I wasn't sure if it fit into the "Art" category so I left it out. :( Good thing is that when I'm taught something, I tend to remember it so I won't make the same mistakes twice. Thanks for all the tips and pointers - they're always appreciated! :) --Lilly 20:11, 29 December 2006 (PST)

Sandboxs

What do u use it for is it to store codes and test them out wasn't sure what you eant to use it for in the message Cavaliers06

You use it for whatever you want to play around with. If there's some code you'd like to mess around with, just put it in your sandbox page and do whatever you like with it. Since it's a sandbox, it's not an official page and it doesn't matter how messy it looks. :) Take a look at my Sandbox to see what I'm playing with right now. It's a great way to learn how templates and other things work. You can also play around in the official Sandbox, but it's more visible and can be embarrassing. ;) --Lilly 23:10, 30 December 2006 (PST)

How do you do the signature bit Cavaliers06

Type these characters --~~~~ exactly like that and you'll have a signature. :) Or, use the button above your edited message that's the second one in from the right (when you hover over the image, it will say "Your signature with timestamp"). --Lilly 23:14, 30 December 2006 (PST)

Editing of flag pages

Ahoy Lilly! I've seen ye have edited both Quixotic Tangent and Candy Coated Chaos pages. I don't really understand why you removed the mission statements from both of them. I like to think they provide much more information on the flags than their public statements and that usually can't be found in flag forums as you stated in one of your edits. Anyways wanted to let you know. I usually remove non-enciclopedic content from pages but try to leave things that of course add more to a page than just the public statement that can be found in-game. --Cecidrake 21:33, 3 January 2007 (PST)

I understand your point Lilly, the thing is usually the public statements are sometimes just advertisement and most of the time in first person since they are copied from the in-game version. Sometimes a little more in wiki makes the difference between a regular page and an interesting one. I understand your point about flag or crew websites, but what happens if the crew or flag goes defunct? The website will prolly be out too. In the case of the pages I told you about the mission statements told much more about the history of how this flags came to be than their public ones. --Cecidrake 13:32, 4 January 2007 (PST)
There's nothing wrong with having mission statements. YPPedia is a special case as it's a game and not the same as real world history where people are recording everything in verifiable manner where there are multiple sources. Certain allowances can and should be made. --Guppymomma 09:01, 5 January 2007 (PST)

On being a good editor

Your desire to be a good editor is definitely an asset to YPPedia. Documentation for YPPedia is not complete and probably won't ever be complete due things always being in flux. Part of being a good editor goes beyond simply following the rules exactly as they are found in the documentation. Participating in the community by expressing your opinions, starting up discussions about policies & other related things that you happen to notice or have questions about, and agreeing to adhere to what the community decides on even if you disagree with it personally are all vital functions. Feel free to bring up the subject of Mission Statements on the talk page of the sample crew/flag page. There's no policy that prohibits Mission Statements, but since not everyone has one/it's not a common thing to have the concept hasn't been included on those sample pages. The wiki is about factual, encyclopedic information, but we must strike a balance with what might be useful or interesting to people as players of a game. --Guppymomma 11:38, 5 January 2007 (PST)

On the removal of goals from my pirate page

I'd appreciate them there, also please refrain from compacting large amounts of the biography section, it can be very annoying. --Flamer 05:29, 7 January 2007 (PST)

And this piece of information from your talk page may be relevant. There's nothing wrong with having mission statements. YPPedia is a special case as it's a game and not the same as real world history where people are recording everything in verifiable manner where there are multiple sources. Certain allowances can and should be made. --Guppymomma 09:01, 5 January 2007 (PST)

Goals would be the single-pirate equivalent of a mission statement, and would be therefore acceptable. --Flamer 11:01, 8 January 2007 (PST)
