Certificate of Appreciation
I want to thank ye for all yer comments and help. Hopefully, I get those nasty clean-up tags removed now! --Arminius 16:22, 22 December 2005 (PST)
Cleanup needs infobox?
I noticed your comment about cleanup requiring an infobox before being removed. When was that decided? I notice it's not in any of the things that are linked to from the template box itself (since all of the links point to Wikipedia). We might want to change the template in some way to indicate an infobox should be used before ditching the tag. --Thunderbird 18:59, 13 February 2006 (PST)
- Well, Forbidden Dreams needs what's there to be cleaned up, and I believe that an infobox would go a long way towards that. I realize I used the phrase "needs" but it's not a formal requirement. --Barrister 19:37, 13 February 2006 (PST)
Edit Note?
Just wondering how do you leave an edit note? --Konck1 12:56, 15 February 2006 (PST)
- I'm sorry. I don't understand your question. What kind of note are you referring to? --Barrister 13:02, 15 February 2006 (PST)
- I dont know how i did it but i did it on this one see how it says edit note? after my change i am just wondering how to do that when i make changes like let people know what my edit/change was without putting it directly into the text --Konck1 13:12, 15 February 2006 (PST)
Uploading images
Has the ability for users to upload images now been removed? I have the image for the Midnight Olympiad that I'd like to put on the site, if it's allowed, and if I can upload it. --Feegle 10:49, 20 February 2006 (PST)
Cleaning up Defunct crews/flags
There are currently three crews and a flag on the cleanup list that are defunct. The flag page can easily be cleaned up because it is just an issue of grammar etc. The problem is with the 3 crews. Of the three, the material that needs to be cleaned is largely related to crew promotions, pay, etc, and two have no infobox. This is kind of a two part question. First, do we want to bother keeping the promotional information? It is fairly useless at this point and a waste of cleaning. But if we do delete it, these pages are essentially blank. We could add stub tags, but I seriously doubt any useful information would ever be added.Second, I obviously can't put information into any infobox that I create for the other two. However, some people mark pages as clean up due to lack of infobox. Some guidance over what to do with these pages would be helpful. --Fannon 16:33, 2 March 2006 (PST)
- Answering your questions in reverse order... if you think the pages are hopeless because there's no real chance of getting minimal information, just propose them for deletion using {{proposed deletion because}}. If anyone disagrees, they'll see the deletion proposal, and we can debate whether deletion is appropriate. As for your first question, I agree that the promotion information is pretty useless. If, after removing it, deletion is appropriate, then tag it like the others. --Barrister 17:45, 2 March 2006 (PST)
Re:Rumble Images
Ahoy! I found that when I removed the Navy bg, the outlines of the icons were not that good. However, I don't suppose it matters that much ;-) so I'll edit and re-upload the images soon with white backgrounds. I can't seem to upload any images at the moment - booch?
Also there are some .jpg images I uploaded, and then realised the file names were wrong. They go Gloves_*.jpg and are under Inventory Images - if it's possible to delete them. My bad...
Urg uploading is still broken: 'The file you uploaded seems to be empty. This might be due to a typo in the file name. Please check whether you really want to upload this file.' same error I got a while back.
Re: Formatting
Urg my bad - Sorry! I am still not happy with the page - With all the links it looks messy. --Sagacious 14:23, 10 March 2006 (PST)
Image Reversion
Urm as you might of noticed, I somehow reverted an image. Is that normal - as I thought only admin could revert. --Sagacious 18:43, 14 March 2006 (PST)
Re: Image Formats
Urg it's mainly because portrait images are JPEG format, and all the portrait images I've stored locally are in JPEG format. I didn't convert tha image's format, it was quicker to grabit from the game. If you really want, I can save them as PNG from now on - however I believe that this makes the image file bigger in size. --Sagacious 05:31, 15 March 2006 (PST)
Also - When you go to save an image from the online galleries - it only lets you save in JPEG or Bitmap - and I don't usually bother to load PSPX to convert them. --Sagacious 05:36, 15 March 2006 (PST)
Magick page
Hoya. Please could you rollback the edit of Black_kat14 on the Magick article, and could you point me to the your change has been rolled back, thanks for experimenting, use the sandbox in the future template?
Thanks. --Pip(t|c|p) 10:33, 15 March 2006 (PST)
Williamiv and NPOV
I know that, strictly speaking, we aren't supposed to NPOV user pages, but can we do anything when their entire page is mostly boldfaced lies and half-truths? User:Williamiv is almost comically wrong to a forumtart... in particular "respected member of the forum community" when most of his 150 or so posts have gotten him screamed at, locked, or have been about how he hates us and is leaving. (Normally I'd bug Guppy, but you're at the top of the administrator list and she's on vacation) --Ponytailguy 09:44, 16 March 2006 (PST)
- On a User: page, anyone can claim to be the Pope if they like. It doesn't really matter. Unless a user puts something genuinely offensive on their page (like how they enjoy molesting children), I'm willing to leave it alone. Now, that being said, Williamiv just received another vandalism warning for editing User:Scupperer. I have the sneaking suspicion that the warning will go unheeded. --Barrister 12:39, 16 March 2006 (PST)
Re: Removing too much
I thought I left in who founded it. Basically I don't remember the original article mentioning which crew the majority of members came from - and therefore saw no nice way of explaining where they came from, other than it was from the founder's previous crew. But maybe I removed a tad too much from that crew page - I don't think I remove too much important info that often when I cleanup and edit. --Sagacious 03:43, 19 March 2006 (PST)
Wanted Pages
Hey. Trying to get the list of wanted pages down to things with no more than 2 links. A big project, I know, but I'll get there. Firstly, what is the $1 link at the top of the list, and how can I get rid of it? In addition, is it a wiki faux pas to create people's user pages for them in order to get them off the wanted list? Basically, is there anything I should avoid doing or anything I should specifically look to do? Cheers. --Redbeardsage
- The $1 link is an artifact of a broken system variable. For now, just ignore it. As for User: pages, a few wiki editors have been quietly creating blank pages (with absolutely no content) just to clear them from the list. I doubt anyone would object if you joined in. --Barrister 08:57, 20 March 2006 (PST)
- As I try not to sound stupid.....how do I create a blank page? :) --Redbeardsage
Cat Sort
Hello again. :) I'm still learning (aren't we all) and just wondered what effect your cat sorting has on things. Is there a practical implication of doing things that way? I assume there must be, but.....you know. :) --Redbeardsage
- Don't like using other peoples talk pages to respond, but apparently the category changes he's making make pages that start with prefixes like A and The appear alphabetically ignoring the prefix, otherwise it would have a large bundle on the Crew/Flag category lists of names starting with The, A...--Sagacious 11:26, 20 March 2006 (PST)
- To expand on that. Category pages sort based on the page name. In addition to "A", "An", and "The", pages needed to be marked if they begin with punctuation marks, or if their names use unusual capitalization. Take a look at PFRC. Without marking it as "Pfrc", the upper-case "F" would cause the category pages to put PFRC before pages that begin with "Pa". --Barrister 11:29, 20 March 2006 (PST)
Rending Rapscallions
Snarff keeps changing the page and adding category headings that *do not* exist in the public statement. That is why we reverted it so many times. The last version by me is the correct public statement, and I honestly don't know why he keeps changing it. I'm beyond frustrated that he hasn't bothered to read any of the messages left for him. --Fannon 12:09, 20 March 2006 (PST)
- I don't mind the subheadings. It's a small issue as long as it's under the overall heading of Public Statement (which it currently is). I agree that Snarff should have the courtesy to respond to your messages. --Barrister 12:17, 20 March 2006 (PST)
Business Template
I went ahead and added the requested information to the business template. It's at Template:Infobox business 2 if you want to take a look or fix something. I just thought I'd let you know.--Zyborg22 19:31, 27 March 2006 (PST)
- It's close. I was thinking of using the numbers for months (1-12), but that requires more sophisticated templates. And I'm not sure it's worth it. --Barrister 20:52, 27 March 2006 (PST)
- Wouldn't be too overly difficult though. It could potentially be standardized since the flag ones use numbers as well (unless these are done differently). By standardized I mean like what we've done with the ocean color headers for all the templates. --Guppymomma 21:04, 27 March 2006 (PST)
- Okay, numberized. Leaving the old month template alone for now just in case of I don't know what, it's probably actually safe to delete them. --Guppymomma 21:14, 27 March 2006 (PST)

The Cobaltian - Question
Ahoy! I was wondering if something like The Weekly Cobaltian is appropriate to be hosted at the wiki? I was thinking of having each past issue archived here, and always keeping the newest in the forum post. (Oh, and browsing the wiki pages I didn't find a way to contact all the admins, so I just choose you at random. :P For future reference, is there a way?) Thanks in advance for your help! --VPeric 04:22, 28 March 2006 (PST)
- Since there is a certain amount of poetic license that may be used in it, I'd suggest using Art:The Weekly Cobaltian as the article title. --Guppymomma 14:17, 28 March 2006 (PST)
- (Responding to Barrister's message) Sure, I can host it on some external site, it shouldn't be much of a problem to find a place to host it. I wanted to have it here because it's related to YPP. As for the editing, I think it's always easy to see if a version isn't the "original" (also, I thought pages could be protected against editing if it comes to that). I'd like some other opinions (since Guppy seems ok with it, or I misunderstood her message) on wether I should put it here or not. I'll start looking for a place to host it on anyway. --VPeric 06:25, 29 March 2006 (PST)
Event Island governments
In re: Event Islands(Cromwell, Halley, etc) what format is best for the Government section? I copied Epsilon'a and Alpha's notes, but you edited those...which is fine, just trying to figure out which is the proper layout.
- I removed the reference to Cromwell from the Halley page so that, if things change, we don't have to make quite so many edits. I think what's there now is sufficient. --Barrister 11:50, 28 March 2006 (PST)
Eggs
The eggs are furniture, not trinkets. --Thunderbird 12:22, 30 March 2006 (PST)
- Whoops! --Barrister 12:22, 30 March 2006 (PST)
Is there some issue with Image:Raquaetta's prize-winning egg.png?--Fiddler 17:59, 30 March 2006 (PST)
- Nope. It seems I didn't notice you'd uploaded them with different names. I'll just fix up Furniture (floor) to use yours. --Barrister 18:03, 30 March 2006 (PST)
template deletion?
Now im just waiting for you too delete the template thingy i made.. then everything is normal again :-P sorry for the mess. --32083 01:31, 3 April 2006 (PDT)
Random category nitpick
Is there a reason the explanations only have three oceans listed? Ex: Crews should use [[Category:Crews:<Ocean>]] (including Midnight, Cobalt, or Viridian) ? It seems silly to bother with the parenthetical statement when all oceans can use the category (including Sage notably), assuming I'm not completely wrong in thinking that.
Also, would you like me to go ahead and fix the linkies that are now broken from your re-categorization, or should I wait and do it later? --Fannon 14:47, 5 April 2006 (PDT)
- No clue about the three ocean issue. I suspect it simply pre-dates Sage. Please do not fix broken category links right now. I appreciate the offer, but there's still some template tweaking to be done, especially for islands. --Barrister 16:06, 5 April 2006 (PDT)
Category
Some of the crew/flag category pages are still showing in red. Do the little blurbs from the old ones need to be copied over as well still? --Fannon 15:23, 6 April 2006 (PDT)
- Yes. I actually didn't quite copy over the old text, so you might want to look at what I used for Category:Cobalt Ocean crews for an example. --Barrister 15:42, 6 April 2006 (PDT)
Edit: Silly me. The wonderful Fannon can do it for me. :) --Featherfin 17:19, 6 April 2006 (PDT)
Pirate page editing
(/me mubles "Stupid carriage return") All done with pirate page editing for now. Something was irritating me and I just had to take care of it right away.--Fiddler 14:35, 11 April 2006 (PDT)
Re: hunter
Heh, whoops. Guess I didn't read that forum post too carefully. Thanks for spotting the error! --Yaten talk 06:22, 14 April 2006 (PDT)
Blank spaces
Blank, white spaces really bother you don't they? ;-) On another note - maybe you should archive this page. Getting long - but at least there is no white space :-P --Sagacious 14:24, 14 April 2006 (PDT)
- Actually, this was something I wanted to mention to you. Having two (or more) carriage returns between paragraphs (or following a template) changes the page layout subtly. Please avoid it, if you can. It's hardly a crisis, but it makes pages that should be similar look a bit different. Thanks! --Barrister 14:26, 14 April 2006 (PDT)
- There had to be a reason didn't there - apart from you being immensely bored. Gotcha - I'll note it in me scrapbook. --Sagacious 14:28, 14 April 2006 (PDT)
