Cochineal Island is a medium island located in the Garnet Archipelago. There are three known routes from the island: Diastrophe Island, Napi Peak, and an inter-archipelago route to Harmattan Island in the Jade archipelago.

History

The story of Cochineal starts with an extinct volcano. All that is left above sea level is an arc of rock, left behind when the volcano last blew (it's the explosive kind, like Mt. St. Helens). The sand is mostly made of crushed sea shells, built up over millenia.

In the middle of the rocks to the northwestern part of the island, an inscription reads, "This island were fashioned by Yngvild."

Cochineal is a scale insect that lives on prickly pear cacti ^[1] and it also played a part in the history of wealth and piracy ^[2].

Cochineal I: 2005-11-20, Indestructible won the initial Cochineal blockade in three rounds in convincing fashion against Rumination.

On or before 2005-12-31, Hecate's Fury and Indestructible merged to form Indestructible Fury, retaining control of the island.

Cochineal II: 2006-11-11, Indestructible Fury successfully defended against Imperial Margarine after three clear rounds.

The Island was transferred to National Pirate Radio on 2007-2-28

Cochineal III: 2007-7-28, National Pirate Radio successfully defended in a 3-0 round blockade against Elements of Fear.

Cochineal IV: 2007-8-25, A Brigand King Blockade was announced but cancelled due to starting time problems so National Pirate Radio retained the island.

2008-04-14, National Pirate Radio transfered the island to Static Before the Storm along with a crew that moved across too.[3]

Cochineal V: 2012-01-07, Static Before the Storm successfully defended against In Love and War. The blockade was closed after one round.
