Map

Isn't there an old Azure map lying around somewhere? It would look nifty if the Azure ocean looked like the other ocean pages. Rappak 12:10, August 9, 2005 (PDT)

There's a map here --Nickster | Talk 12:59, 9 August 2005 (PDT)
Take a look at how the maps were made in the various arches/islands. If you need a tutorial on how that template system works, I'm sure Callistan, Barrister or Yaten would be happy to give you some pointers. --Guppymomma 13:05, 9 August 2005 (PDT)

I got all the colonized ones. What should we put in for the uncolonized?

All of the archs now have working charts. Anyone want to make up the information pages? --Markozeta 18:47, 13 August 2005 (PDT)

The Line about Azure being replaced by Ice is kind of confusing. Techncially, Ice is hosted on the box that used to be home to the Midnight Server. Right? What happened to the Azure? It is said that Cleaver age it. --Heygabe 12:23, 11 August 2005 (PDT)

My guess is something horific happened to the database that they couldn't recover. I know all the holds got emptied at one point.
The other problem with Azure is everyone went out with a bang, gutting shop inventory so everyone could have a cleaver and black outfit, and any remaining funds got /gloried, so the economy was a wreck. (I, myself, got a complete set of all 10 red\purple swords.) Then war testing comes along and everyone turns all their ships into splinters hopping to get a hook or a patch. In the end, the islands where there, but everything else was wrecked as far as a long-term viable economy goes. If they had basically start from scratch to establish a ongoing testing ocean, might as well start on a more managable sized map with everyone back at square one. You can't go home again.

Midsummer

Are you sure it's Midsummer Island? I thought it was just Midsummer, though it could have changed between Azure and Midnight. – Yaten talk 14:27, 24 August 2005 (PDT)

Not real sure it's midsummer island, but I made about a billion charts with midsummer island in them. If someone's willing to move the charts, I'll have it fixed by tonight. --Markozeta 17:29, 24 August 2005 (PDT)
It's midsummer. Changing now.

Finished! Now what?

Well, all the islands have image headers. Now, if someone could find building names and such, we'd have a whole Azure History Section. --Markozeta 10:21, 7 September 2005 (PDT)

One thing I'm not sure about and interested in is the life span of Azure so to speak, when did it open and close (although I can assume an approximate close date from when Midnight opened) just an idea of one thing I'd like to know that could go on this page somewhere. It says the ocean was open between Alpha and beta testing periods of the game. If you look at the links for both Alpha and Beta, you can see that Azure opened on around October 31st, 2002 and closed around December 8, 2003. Peterljr888 6:34, 24 June 2006 (PDT)

Midnight opened to the public October 27th 2003. It was running a few days or more before that date, but only ringers, and maybe some select players had access to it. For me anyway, and for most of the beta testers, the 27th was the first day of Midnight.
Azure closed to the public the day before, on the 26th. I think Azure continued running as a test server until Ice opened, but only the ringers (and maybe select players?) had access to it. Azure opened to the public a few times for testing.

The end of the beta and the opening of Midnight are not technically the same date. Beta continued after Azure closed and Midnight opened. December 8th is the date that beta ended. And Midnight had been open for around 5 weeks of beta. Most players think of Azure closing as the end of beta. However, from OOO’s perspective, beta continued until “Full release” on Dec 8th, which is the day that subscriptions began to count and free trial periods went into effect.

From the Azure Ocean article, “the Midnight Ocean was opened and Azure became the temporary test server, until it was shut down and replaced by the Ice Ocean.”
This is a bit misleading, while Azure may have continued to run as a test server, it was not open to the public in the way that Ice is. I think some readers may come away with the impression that Midnight and Azure were both available to the public concurrently until Ice replaced Azure. This of course was not the case. Midnight and Azure were open publicly concurrently, but only for a few short periods of time.
