Nice work - I wonder what caused the 1 to 3 point difference between your chart and mine? Anyways, I've started updating the instructions for the chart templates: Template_talk:Chart. You'll run into a few situations, like Flow, where you'll need to put an individual difficulty point after all the islands and routes in order to have it display properly. Take a look at the Ice map to see what I mean. --Fiddler 20:37, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
I think the difference might be that I'm working on a Mac, so the color calibration (ColorSync they call it, and it's pervasive throughout the whole OS's display layer) may be causing discrepancies. That's why I'm entering the whole map, including Ruby, so you have a point of comparison. I figure if we have a consistent set of numbers across the whole map, it might help. But because of the differences, I fear my numbers might not be usable in the final product. I'll still finish the map though.
And I get what you're saying about Flow - I think I can see why it's happening, though I wasn't sure what to do about it. I'll try and clean up all that stuff at the end, once I get all the numbers up. I'll have a look at your instructions, too. I was just trying to figure it out as I went along, based on what you did for Ruby and Ice and copying the patterns I saw being used.
OK, it's finished. I think this is as good as I'm going to get it, at least with my numbers. I don't have any of the dead routes memorized, so I can't offer numbers for those points, unfortunately.
I'm not terribly fond of how the whole ocean basically comes out blue. I wonder if it would make sense to shift the scale so most of the colors fall across the lower numbers. For example (original number / color / new proposed range) this might be a start:
0: violet 0-6 10: dark blue 7-9 20: blue 10-12 30: teal 13-15 40: green 16-19 50: yellow 20-25 60: orange 26-35 70: red 36-46 80: dark red 47-70 90: black 71-100 100: black
I think that would give the chart a coloration that is more in line with what people would traditionally expect the map to look like, color-wise. (ie, the traditional "orange" routes would be orange, etc.)
If you used different strength numbers (and I think they will be different if taken off a PC) then that range would probably need to be tweaked upward a little, and the exact cutoffs could be argued over for a long time before they are "right". If you want the screenshots I used, you're welcome to see them.
If there's other questions, just ask. A PM on the forums, or a /tell on Midnight ocean is probably the best way to grab my attention.
