Bilging is one of the seven duty Puzzles used to sail a ship. Bilgers help pump out water that leaks into a ship, making it go slower. The higher the level of water, the less effective Sailing is.
To play Bilging, pirates must step up to a Bilging Duty station (a pump) and start working. Hovering over the puzzle will show a two-piece target move around the board. Clicking will cause those two pieces to swap. The goal is to make matches of 3 in a row horizontally or vertically.
Bilge scoring is based on efficiency - the less moves taken to clear pieces, the higher the score. Better bilgers also create combos that clear more than 3 pieces.
Bilging also comes with 3 special pieces. A crab that won't move unless above the water line, than leaves, a pufferfish that clears all adjacent pieces, and a jellyfish that removes all other pieces of a particular type. These pieces do not show up as often.
Like most puzzles, Bilging has a score indicator. The pump in the corner of the puzzle shows your score. The brown, slow pump means that you are not doing well, and the gold, fast, and sparkly means that you are doing great.
