Regarding Crafting Puzzles
I have an idea for weaving. It involves long strings or strips of fabric that you click on to bring to the surface. Making patterns of overlapping fabric gets you points; the more complex the pattern, the more points. (Color could be incorporated, but might need to be restricted to three colors.)
Also, for tailoring, there could be something involving a needle, like a board of holes with blockers on it; the thread can't cross those blockers and must go "under" the board to get past them. Again, it could be making patterns, but it could also be making it from one side of the board to the other, or making it back to where you started, or some combination. The holes could be oriented either vertically and horizontally or diagonally:
o | o o o | o o ^ o ^ o ^ o - + + + \ / / \ o o | o o o < o X o X o > - - + - \ / / \ o | o o | o o OR o X o / o \ o + + - - / \ / \ o o o o | o < o X o ^ o > - + - \ / \ / \ / o o | o o o o V o V o V o
Of course, there's always the option to allow or disallow diagonal in the left-hand option, and likewise to allow/disallow horizontal/vertical in the right-hand option.
For ironworking, you could lay down pieces of molten iron that cool as you place subsequent pieces; there could be, say, three stages of heat (molten, red-hot, and cool, for example). You'd have a set of moulds, and they would be different sizes (different numbers of sections). Each would have a tip, at least one middle, and one or two hilt sections. A complete sword would be removed, but only once it's cool. Pieces would correspond to the different spaces and could come in on a conveyor belt or something. How many pieces available at once, how many swords on a board, and what size they are could vary according to the level. A single mould would be re-used in a stage for more points.
Other Related Puzzling Ideas
It also crosses my mind that there isn't much music in puzzle pirates. As I was looking through the items in furnishings, I noticed the harpsichord and thought it looked a bit like a crafting puzzle item (like the sill or loom). Couldn't we make a music puzzle, maybe an anagram puzzle or some other form of word puzzle, and the more you get out of the total possible, the better music you play? It'd be great for the inns, and cool for the ships - you could even introduce a new title, like muse or chef, and call it composer.
Couldn't there also be puzzles for chef, bowsman, and fisherman titles? If we could have someone fishing to supply the chef, the chef could feed the crew to curb the ails of running low on rum; successful cooking could reduce the ale bottles down the sides of the swordfighting columns. (I honestly don't know what a bowsman would do.) :)
