Explanation

This tutorial is meant to help players of Puzzle Pirates learn how to edit their game files to show different colors in specific games. This is meant to help out colorblind pirates who may have an unfair difficulty in a specific puzzle due to being unable to tell specific pieces apart. While it is not encouraged and not the intention of the tutorial, nothing can be done to stop those who are not handicaped from using these methods in some manner for fun edits.

• What does this do exactly?

Using this tutorial, you will edit the image files that your game uses when playing, so that some of your colors or shapes will be different than normal.

• Is this against the rules?

No, but please read the disclaimer before using this tutorial.

• What will happen if my game messes up?

The worst thing that will happen is the graphics used in the specific puzzle you were using may be missing, thus momentarily making it impossible for you to play that puzzle. If such a thing may happen to you, immediatly read the tutorial for ways to fix this. If you are still lost and unable to fix your game, either post in the discussion page, or try reinstalling your game.

• Will you do a tutorial for Mac users?

No, I do not own a Mac, so I do not know how to do this on a mac, but the principle should be the same. If anyone else wishes to make one, please do.

Getting Started

The first step is to locate your Three Rings folder. To do so, you must go to the location that you installed your game to. If you do not remember changing where you had installed it, it should be found in the default location. C:\Program Files\Three Rings Design . To navigate these folders manually, simple open "My Computer" which should be found in your start menu if you are using Windows XP or Vista, or your desktop if any older version. If you are still lost, an easy way to open any folder mentioned by path in this tutorial is to copy the path such as C:\Program Files\Three Rings Design, and open "Run" by opening your start menu, and selecting "Run", then simple paste the path in the box provided and hit ok.

Now that you are in your three rings folder, you should see a Puzzle Pirates folder inside, as well as any other Three Rings games you might have played, such as Bang Howdy. You must now navigate yourself to the location of the files you are going to be required to edit to change the colors of your game, found here: C:\Program Files\Three Rings Design\Puzzle Pirates\rsrc\bundles\media . In this folder, you will see many other folders with odd names, this is where you can find each game specific folder. The contents of each folder are as follows.

yohoho-puzzle: Contains very basic files that are used for most puzzles, most notably the sand timer, and progress stars.
yohoho-puzzle-boxing Contains the files used in the Rumble puzzle.
