Public Statement
The Sickness is an established crew with the goal of growing in size and in fame. We are drifters, with no permanent base of operations, though most of us call the Pelican Archipelago home.
Did ye notice that we don’t have a captain? This is intentional. Our crew is run by a council of Senior Officers. We aren’t looking for a captain and we aren’t looking to be “bought”, so don’t ask.
As a crew our philosophy is simple – have fun and make PoE. To that end we have established a few simple rules that we require all members of our crew abide by:
1) Treat others with respect at all times and in all situations.
2) Permission To Board (PTB) - always ask PTB before boarding a ship. Over /crew channel simply ask "PTB <ship name>?" and wait for a response from the OIC. Failure to ask PTB will most likely lead to planking.
3) Obey the Officer in Charge (OIC).
4) On pillages work hard, follow orders, stay on yer station and don’t laze. Never leave during battle. If ye must leave during a pillage, please ask the OIC first.
5) Don’t spam, beg or act in other ways that are disruptive to the crew.
6) If ye are an officer – seek permission before borrowing ships and follow any rules posted on the OBB. Ye may not take from the coffers of ships that are not yers.
Failure to follow this rules after being warned will result in a public beating (read: planking, -1 on booty div, black spotting or expulsion).
If ye’d like to join our crew as a full member just ask any officer. We welcome all pirates who want to work hard and have fun. Promotion requirements are in our Private Statement. Yar!
Early History
The Sickness was started by Ultravirus as an off shoot of Sage Subrunners. The goal was to be a small crew of drifters with truly oligarchic governance. Ultravirus brought with him a small portion of the Sage Subrunners crew to develop into an officer corp.
Most notably among the original Sage Subrunners defectors were 2 young pirates named Scurvycrab and Crabbycrab. Ultravirus trained Scurvycrab and Crabbycrab in all aspects of boat management. With this training and a lot of dedication and practice, "the crabs" as they had become known, advanced up the ranks to be the crews first (Scurvycrab) and second (Crabbycrab) Senior Officers.
The early days of The Sickness were spent doing a great deal of pillage practice. Under Ultravirus' supervision the young officers made much pillage. They learned the ways of the sea in the process, and met many great pirates. Many good friends and future leaders became members of the crew early on. Aurothorn, Arragon, Jingo, Monkeydude (aka Oldmonkey), Meritt, Rustblade and Pasm were all early recruits that now make up a large portion of the leadership of the crew.
Modern History
The modern incarnation of The Sickness was born in late 2006. The Sickness was invited to participate in a "Small Flag Exhibition Blockade" hosted by Helystra at Spaniel Island. Excitied and ready to make their debut on the blockade scene, The Sickness and their flag The Avengers began to seek advice and prepare for war. With great efforts and generocity by Scurvycrab, Dingyscow and Catoosa, and with the support of Rogues of Sage, Candy Coated Chaos and other flags (that may not wish to be named), and with the help of countless other pirates of outstanding fame and character, The Sickness and The Avengers were well prepared for war. Please see The Avengers' page for blockade history. (link to come)
The Sickness underwent a rapid transformation from a loose band of friendly pirates, to a tight core of friendly pirates, that were savy and sea-wise. They continue to network and learn the skills of playing on an ocean-wide level.
