Tethys Island takes its name from the Tethys Ocean, which formerly existed between Gondwana and Laurasia before the opening of the Indian Ocean two hundred million years ago. It was named after the Greek titaness Tethys, a sea goddess, daugher of Uranus and Gaia, and sister and wife to Oceanus.
Tethys Island is an uninhabitable island.
