History
Taniwha Island was originally located on the Malachite Ocean. A broken barrel on the eastern shore of the island reads "This island were fashioned by Falkenberg."
In the mythology of the Māori (the indigenous people of New Zealand), Taniwha (pronounced Tuh-nee-fuh) are beings that live in deep pools in rivers, dark caves, or in the sea, especially in places with dangerous currents or deceptive breakers. The word 'taniwha' is also used to refer in a complimentary way to chiefs.
Tahniwha Island is currently an uninhabitable island.
