Discussion regarding fill rate
The discussion on this page regarding Fill Rate is at best misleading, but I think wrong (conflicts with the information provided by LizTheGrey shown in the page on Dynamic Spawn linked to by the article) in it's claims regarding a higher bid yielding a faster spawn rate.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Mysql (talk • contribs)
- What documentation or tests do you have to the contrary? I'll admit that one of the threads Faulkston linked is from 2004, and the information you mention is probably drawn from those old mentions from Three Rings Developers. Chupchup 22:40, 9 June 2014 (PDT)
- I don't have any real evidence or documentation on the matter, but the edit for the Dynamic Spawn article in 2007 (http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/index.php?title=Dynamic_spawn&direction=next&oldid=221632) was what I was referring to. My concern was that the last line in the How Market Bids Fill section implies that the bid offer does affect the spawn rate given that it is made clear that bids below the high bid will not be filled until those at the high bid, however upon reading the document yet again I fear that I may have simply become confused by the last phrase, which I now presume is referring to the fact that an uncontested high bid will fill faster than a contested high bid. I think maybe it would be beneficial to make this clearer if another agrees, as I found this slice of the article extremely difficult to understand.
- I'm also concerned by the sentence "matching the current high price will cause new bids to start filling at the same rate as existing bids", which seems to imply that the rate at which existing bids fill would be unchanged, and that, for example, having 1 bid for 10 units would fill in the same time frame as 2 bids for 10 units, as the additional bid would "start filling at the same rate as [the existing bid]", which would imply that the spawn rate had doubled. This implication is contrary to the rest of the section in the Market Bidding page, and the quote from LizTheGrey in the referenced page on Dynamic Spawn, and caused me quote some confusion when first reading the section.
