12 o'clock -- use "noon"/"midnight" please

Since "AM" indicates "after midnight, but before 12 noon" and "PM" indicates "after 12 noon, and before midnight", I have never been able to understand if "12 AM" means 12 NOON or 12 MIDNIGHT. :-(

So, for the purposes of the tournament (specifically, in this case), could we please get you to tweak the times listed accordingly? My apologies for the inconvenience. Thanks! -- Franklincain ^(t/c) 13:31, 11 March 2014 (PDT)

12am refers unambiguously to midnight as 12pm refers unambiguously to noon. I'm not sure what the problem is. Also, we're talking about a table, where space is at a premium and uniformity is as well. Chupchup 22:09, 11 March 2014 (PDT)

It may be "unambiguous" to you, but it is certainly not "unambiguous" to me (else, I'd not have brought it up in the first place). Since the actual Latin words (for which the abbreviations "a.m." and "p.m." are used) quite literally mean "before noon" and "after noon" respectively, that makes "12 noon" a point in time precisely between the a.m. and p.m. demarcations. Thank you for sharing your opinion (no citation, no proof offered; just your declaration), but it's still very much ambiguous to me; therefore I presume it could very well be ambiguous to others as well.

Secondly, I see a wealth of buffer space in this table, so changing one to "12 noon" and the other to "12 midnight" (or even to just plain "midnight") does not appear to be any sort of burden or crisis.

Wikipedia:12-hour_clock#Confusion_at_noon_and_midnight. As for screen width, don't forget we need to cater to the lowest common denominator.
