Illustrated Poker Games

Introduction

These games are all illustrated to acompany the guide that I have created for poker on puzzle pirates, they simply go through a small amount of hands to try and explain what you should be thinking about as you play.

Game 1 - 20k table Low number of players

This is a table of a very small amount of players so this won't conform to my guide exactly especially for the hand starting requirements since small rings you should be a looser more aggressive player, this is why for starting players playing tight on full tables is so much easier.

Dachimpy bought in for 20,000 pieces of eight.
Tranquilized has a 35k stack.

Hand 1

Flop: 3♦, K♦, 2♣
Turn: 6♦
River: 2♥
Dachimpy has two pair ( 3 3 2 2 K ).
Tranquilized has two pair ( K K 2 2 A ).
Tranquilized won 4,600 pieces of eight from a side pot!
Jessmail has a pair ( 2 2 K 10 8 ).

This was the first hand where I had very little information about any opponents, I had flopped a mid pair and decided to bet a big blind to be re-raised 3 big blinds by tranquilized. The turn was check check, on the river I checked and got raised again. At this point I was quite sure I was beat but I knew nothing of tranquilised's style, so I decided to call as it was only about a thousand which by pp standards isnt too much in order to get information. She turned over ak suited so I immediately come to the basic conclusion that this is a very tight player.

Hand 2

Flop: 6♠, A♥, 6♥
Turn: A♠
Dachimpy won 3,600 pieces of eight from the main pot!

This hand I had raised with j 10 of clubs, and made a continuation bet on the flop. I decided to follow through on the turn now that the board had paired to truly test if she had it or not, she folded so I now know that she can be a bit of a calling machine.

Vanish bought in for 19,496 pieces of eight.

Hand 3

Flop: J♥, 7♥, 5♣
Turn: 3♥
River: 5♠
Vanish has a pair ( 5 5 A J 7 ).
Dachimpy has two pair ( 5 5 3 3 Q ).
Tranquilized has a pair ( 5 5 Q J 10 ).
Dachimpy won 600 pieces of eight from the main pot!

No action.

Hand 4

Flop: 9♠, 9♥, 4♥
Turn: A♠
River: 10♠
Vanish has a pair ( 9 9 A 10 6 ).
Tranquilized has a pair ( 9 9 A Q 10 ).
Tranquilized won 400 pieces of eight from the main pot!

No action, but now after several hands it gives you a lot more information about these two opponents. I have played 4 hands now and they have never preflopped, even on AK suited! And there has been evidence that tranquilised is a bit of a calling machine.

Hand 5

At this point I get a 10, because of the loose nature of the calls id seen I decided to make the raise a decent size, up to 800 which is 4bb total.

Flop: 7♣, 10♣, K♥

I flop a ten so I decide to do a continuation bet, which id have done no matter what. I bet 1000 and get two callers.

Turn: 6♣

At this point my a 10 is starting to look very weak, I had two callers with an overcard out there and the flush is now on the board. So I am finished with this hand. One thing to note here is that Tranquilised checked instantly behind me (I was in middle position).

River: 4♥

Vanish at this point decides to go all in with about 17k into roughly a 3-4k pot. Both me and tranquilised fold immediately. This gains information on both tranquilised's tight play and the fact that Vanish falls into one of two categorys. Either he is an extreme maniac, or he simply overbets the best hands. The next few hands will give the solution to that question, try and figure it out for yourself, Is this vanish person a pure maniac? Or did he have the flush and simply play it very badly.

Vanish won 22,600 pieces of eight from the main pot!

The game now has 4 players in it.

Turn: 9♥

I folded in this hand preflop due to a weak hand, mostly what happened is that kiadude simply went all in like your average pp short stacker.

Due to the loose nature of the table I raise on 7a spades to about 1k.

Flop: 6♠, Q♠, 5♣

The flop gives me a flush draw, now I know people are going to be calling me here no matter what and I have good odds to make my flush, so my aim is to drag as many players into this hand as I can so I bet just 1k. Unfortunately it fails and I only get tranquilised as a caller.

Turn: 9♠

The turn brings a spade and I now have the best possible hand. But I stopped here to think about what she could possibly be holding. She tended to be a very weak player that passively calls but doesn't like big pots. With this information I put her on a weak hand but one that she would call to the right bet. Something along the lines of a weak top pair. So I decide to bet a very modest amount here of around 1k again.

River: 9♣

The river pairs the board but its very unlikely that she had any sort of 9 in her hand or pockets, I feel like she would have made a lot more speed earlier on with a two pair or a set so I ignore this card. I trust my read on my oponent that she is weak, so I again only bet 2k into the pot because I want her to call. She does and shows me q8, top pair with a mediocre kicker which is exactly what I put her on and the reason I didnt push the betting stronger.

Tranquilized has two pair ( Q Q 9 9 8 ).
Dachimpy won 11,200 pieces of eight from the main pot!

Womoon bought in for 2,000 pieces of eight.

Flop: K♣, 10♦, A♠
Turn: 8♠
River: 4♣
Tranquilized won 5,400 pieces of eight from the main pot!

In this hand I had j 10 again but when the flop came my analysis told me there was little point to betting. I either had her beat or she had a better hand and I was wasting my time betting. It was very passive until the river where she hugely over bet about 3k into a 1.5k pot after no action.

Fairly irrelevant hand

Flop: 4♥, 9♠, A♣
Turn: J♣
River: 9♦
Womoon won 1,100 pieces of eight from the main pot!

Again a small pot with little action.

Flop: K♦, J♥, Q♥
Turn: J♠
River: 3♣

On this hand I had not preflopped on ace 9 of hearts, on the flop since I need a ten for the nuts straight or a heart for the nut flush I bet 600 into the 800 pot, I have a lot of outs here and need to build the pot. This gets all but vanish of which I have little information calling. I don't know what this player is like so I decide to just check it down until the river and he shows 8 4 of hearts. This is a classic situation and why you avoid these hands preflop, if that heart had hit his whole stack would have been mine. Don't call these weak hands! I win the pot because of my ace high.

So lets go through all the player profiles we have here.

The main two players that we had action with were Tranquilised and Vanish with two small stackers who were just going all in every so often, they aren't really worth analysing.

Tranquility

Tranquility comes under your classic category of a calling station. She will call a lot of hands, and only bet when she is very confident of her hand – And usually this will be quite late and a small amount.

Vanish

This again is a very tight player in general, he never made any moves or bluffs but showed that he can call any hand preflop as shown with the 48 of hearts. He went all in like a maniac however he only did this once, these are warning beacon style players – They do almost no action and as soon as they get lucky with their bad hands they will try and force all in on you, dont go for it unless you think you will win! Make them call their worse hands preflop and eat away at their stacks.
