GHT:The docks

What they See

The inferface seen upon first login

When a player logs into the game for the first time, they're presented with a special screen that only first-time accounts see, including the bilge, furniture and swordfighting missions, as well as a "Just let me start the game" button. The mission buttons function the same way as the mission buttons on a notice board, and take you to the same place.

The "greenie" notice board

When greenies select the notice board or missions board, they also see a slightly different version. It includes all of the "Learn To" missions (Sailing, Bilging, Carpentry, Swordfighting, Items and Furnishing) as well as the Challenge missions (Swordfighting and, if it's a free day or the account is subscribed, Drinking and Rumble), and, if applicable, the Claim your Inheritance mission. It may also include "Pillage with a crew".

The "tip of the day" is also replaced with a more greenie-targeted message.

One key difference is that there is no Missions tab, instead the Missions are located on the front page. This is a common mistake amongst greenie helpers.

Who (to a greenie)

What a greenie /who query looks like

When a greenie runs a "general who" query (Types in /w or /who without a pirate name), they are also informed of any nearby greeters (if there are any online). Generally they must be on land, and in a fairly populated archipalego, for any greeters to appear; the odds of greeters being aboard a navy boat or in an archipelago of mostly uninhabited islands, and on-duty, are slim to none.

Greenies & Greeters

Note the "talk to a greeter" button

There are three primary ways by which greenies and greeters interact. The main way is through circle conversations... Greeters appear to have pink names from the perspectives of Greenies, as well as other greeters and Ocean Masters/Developers.

As a secondary means, Greenies have access to the "Talk to a greeter" button, which will immediately put them in contact with a greeter anywhere in the ocean. (Even if there are no volunteer greeters on duty, the Ocean Master will often have their greeter status enabled.) This button is slightly hidden. To get to it, greenies have to go to the Ye tab, then push the Help button, then to the Ahoy tab, and click the Talk to a greeter button. Doing so sends an inquiring /tell to a greeter, who can hopefully take it from there. (The greenie's chat mode is also configured so that they can /tell that greeter without having to retype their name or press the up key.)

The third form of interaction is the greeter pillage, a training pillage mode designed for introducing new mates to life at sea; see the specific article for more details.
