Game concept

A puzzle based on the game Black Box.

Objective

Discover the locations of your four furnishing tools so your workers can get started on building furniture. (Alternate concept: Deduce the places of your opponents marbles before your's gets found.)

Gameplay

Oh no! Those sneaky sanding gnomes have hidden your tools in a black box! Quick! Find them before your workers quit!

A game starts with an empty, 8X8 black box. Surrounding it are white boxes. On the left are your workers with their progress bars. On the right, a move counter counting down to the next tool heist. See example board:

The computer randomly places four tools inside. They are invisible. To play, you click on a white box. That box can A)get letter or symbol (haven't decided which yet) that matches another box's (detour or miss), B) turn red (hit), or C) turn yellow (reflection). If A, it means that when you fired your light, it missed (the symbols are straight across from each other) or bounced off a tool. If B, it means that the light hit a tool straight on. If C, it means that the light bounced off one tool, then bounced off another, creating this kind of pattern:

After you find a set, the worker that lost his set will start working again and a new worker will come to ask for tools. The working worker will fill in one third of his bar. The game then starts over except for the workers' progress bars.

Scoring

Scoring is determined by how many lights it took to find a set. Other ideas requested.

Variability

Variables include:

  • Number of tools
  • Moves allowed

More are requested.

End criteria

The gnomes steal all your tools before you can find a set or your workers complete three pieces of furniture.

Difficulty scaling

Scaling changes the number of tools and how many moves you can use. More things wished for (post in thread).

Crafting type

Furnishing, though could be a new carousing game or foraging.

Known problems

Shots in the lower levels will be easily predictable.

Notes

  • When the move counter runs out, another work gets in line.
  • There are three workers that circulate.
  • The total number of plays required would be nine.
  • If this was to become a carousing game, there would be two sets of marbles, yours being ignored.
  • If this was to become a foraging game, the tools would become fruits, and the workers rum supply.
