Game concept
A game about manipulating colorful threads.
Objective
Move the threads to create 2x2 or larger blocks of the same color.
Gameplay
Gameplay takes place on an NxN (probably 8x8 or so) board with a thread running both vertically and horizontally through each square. The threads are multicolored (each square and direction can be one of red, green or blue). The color of the squares under the thread depend on the colors of the two threads above them. For example, if a red and a blue thread cross, the square under them would be purple. Threads are manipulated by pulling the vertical threads up and down, and the horizontal threads left and right. The ends of the threads (probably) wrap around the board. The game is (probably) limited to a finite number of moves.
Scoring
Each time a solid-colored rectangle (at least 2x2) is created, it is removed from the board and points are awarded. Creating anything larger than 2x2 is very difficult and should be scored highly. One possible scoring would be 10 points base, plus 10 points for each square beyond the first 4. Overall, for an NxM rectangle, this would give (N*M - 3)*10 points. In addition, consecutive matches should gain some bonus (possibly a simple linear multiplier, but that may be too generous).
Variability
It is possible to lower the number of colors of thread to 2, but this would make it extremely easy to score. It is possible to raise the number of colors to 6 (adding cyan, purple and yellow). How the color of the underlying square would be determined is unknown. It is possible to begin the board with only two colors and introduce the third after a match or two has been made. Some power-ups would improve variability, replayability and ease.
End criteria
After a certain number of moves has been made, the game ends.
Difficulty scaling
The base difficulty is either fairly easy (with 2 colors) or quite hard (with 3). There may be other methods of controlling the difficulty that haven't been explored.
Crafting type
Weaving
Known problems
Default gameplay is quite hard. Too little testing has been done to know of other problems.
Notes
There is an offline (downloadable executable) here. (Click Request Download Link near the top.) There is currently no online version. The mechanic of the overlapping thread colors could be used in other ways (for example, placing the threads instead of moving them to make the patterns).
