Game concept

A blacksmithing puzzle loosely based on the blacksmithing method used in the game, A Tale In The Desert.

Objective

Shape a mass of metal to match a template of different blacksmithing items.

Gameplay

Different shaped hammers swing down from the top of the screen towards a rectangular mass of metal. The hammers have 3 different heads (round head, flat head, sharp point). The spacebar will scroll through the three hammerheads, which display in the top left hand corner of the screen. The rectangular mass of metal can be rotated clockwise with the up arrow key or counter-clockwise with the down arrow key. The metal mass can also be moved left with the left arrow key and right using the right arrow key. There will be a timelimit to complete each shape. Once the time runs out a new template will load with a new unshaped mass of metal. The shape and location of the hammerhead will determine how much the section of the metal mass is deformed. Also the shape will determine the spread pattern of the other metal around the contact point.

Scoring

The score awarded for each finsihed shape will be based on the time left for the stage and how close the finished shape matches the template in each stage.

Variability

Bonus glowing spots on the metal mass appear randomly after hammer strikes. The glowing spots will be one of four colors (Red, Blue, Orange, Yellow). Striking three of the same color will give you a bonus to the final score for the stage. Completing two sets of bonus strikes will give a Double, three a Triple, four a Bingo, and so on. Also the template chosen during each stage will be random.

End criteria

The game will end after a stage has run out of time and the shape being worked on is not sufficiently close enough to the template to score points.

Difficulty scaling

The fall speed of the hammers increases at the begining of each new stage. Thus it will become increasingly harder to complete the shape. It will also be harder to achieve bonus strikes.

Crafting type

Blacksmithing puzzle

Known problems

One issue with this puzzle is that a player could figure out a optimized system of strikes for each template to complete it in the shortest time. This is somewhat neutralized by the ever increasing speed of the hammer strikes with each stage. The introduction of the randomize bonus strikes will also make it hard to get the highest possible score on a consistant basis.
