Piece of history...
3000 years ago, it was already used by the Assyrians as ornaments and decorative embellishment. The motif was later on used in India, Egypt, Greece, Rome as well as in Gaul. It is said to be inspired by the yellow Iris, a flower growing on the banks of the Leie river, Belgium.
In 507 A.D., the design is first used as an emblem by the first Christian King Franc, Clovis I. From then on end, the fleur-de-lys ( or lily flower) would represent the French Monarchy. Much later, as the hundred year war ( 1337-1453) carried on, the French added a white cross to the Fleur-de-lys motif . It is in fact King Charles VII who imagined a flag representing a field of gold lilies on a Azur blue background topped with a white cross. Adopted by the masses, the flag sealed the political unity of France.
With the great explorations came in 1534 Jacques Cartier to America and after setting foot in Gaspé, Québec, he planted a wooden cross displaying a triple fleur-de-lys ornament. After that, Jacques Cartier' s vessel were identified by the solid blue and centred white cross design.
Event thought people from the province of Québec accepted to be part of Canada by joining the confederation, they still felt apart from the rest of the country thus mainly characterized by different values and French speaking. The people from Québec wanted a distinct flag. In January 21st. 1948, the Fleurdelisé was proudly raised at the Provincial Parlement in Québec City. The flag as we know it has been from that moment on the official symbol of an one of a kind population who begged to differ.

Translating our heritage into Puzzle Pirate, the crew K Bec Her's founded the Fleurdelisé Flag ! We proudly represent our people by raising our flag up high and relentlessly attack brigands and barbarians ocean wide!
