Cutthroat Collaboration!
Edit this entry or Discuss this entry

There has been too much tarting between the oceans of late! To succeed in this event, you'll require the assistance of players from each ocean, in puzzle skills and general knowledge of the player base per individual oceans. Each team will consist of one player from Cobalt, Midnight, Viridian, Sage and Hunter oceans. A forum thread will be provided for potential competitors to network with players from other oceans to facilitate team formation. This is a cooperative event including three separate competitions with prizes at each level. All prizes will ONLY be awarded on the Home Ocean each pirate provides in their registration, or ICE ocean.

Player Profile Timeline
Audience Any pirate may participate in The Pirate Feud and Cream of the Crop, on a space available basis, however priority will be given to the top scoring teams from Which Team Reigns Supreme. Only those who are currently subscribed or have purchased 24 doubloons with real money in the last month may participate in Which Team Reigns Supreme, as it is being held on ICE Ocean. Ability to be an officer on Ice is NOT required. Elapsed time 2 weeks.
Unit of Entry Teams and Individual Entries. Participant Time 2 Hours per event, 3 events total.
Expected Participation Limited to 120 entrants/30 teams. Registration required. Participants selected on a first come, first served basis. Actually expected participants, approx. 20 teams. Judging Time Within 48 hours of Final Forum Submission.
Platform Ice Ocean, Midnight Ocean and some Forum Involvement.

Which Team Reigns Supreme

Teams compete head to head in Sailing, Bilging and Carpentry on the ICE ocean. Each of your five team members may participate in each of the 3 skills. Two Grand Frigates will PvP each other, with teams split evenly between both ships. You'll have 30 turns to have each teammate try each of the three puzzles. You can exit the puzzles at anytime and are not required to attempt all puzzles. In fact, an important part of your team strategy may be in having teammates who are weak in a puzzle to abstain from that puzzle, as poor scores CAN penalize the team. Because this event is only one round, there are no prohibitions against participants sharing IP's.

Judging

Points will be awarded based on the duty report word scores, and your entire teams points will be added together for a team score.

- Incredible: 3 pts
- Excellent: 2 pts
- Good: 1 pt
- Failed to Participate: 0 pts
- Fine: -1 pt
- Poor: -2 pts
- Booched/Learning: -3 pts

Prizes

There will be 2 sets of prizes given out for this portion of the event. One based on team performances and presented on players registered home oceans, one based on individual performances and presented on ICE ocean.

Prizes on Home Ocean

Team prizes will be based on the combined scores of all 5 team players.
I am also hoping to get trinkets to go with each of those cash prizes.

  • 1st place team members will each receive 30,000 PoE on their registered home ocean.
  • 2nd place team members will each receive 20,000 PoE on their registered home ocean.
  • 3rd place team members will each receive 10,000 PoE on their registered home ocean.

Prizes on ICE Ocean

Individual prizes will be determined by duty report placement of individual pirates for each station (Carpentry, Bilging and Sailing) on both ships, for a total of 6 prizes for each 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

  • 1st place will each receive a sloop (hopefully renamed to "Supreme" + Fishname).
Doublooner's may instead choose a Broken Bottle Bludgeon and 3,000 PoE.
  • 2nd place will each receive a NEW Yellow or Green Scimitar.
  • 3rd place will each receive a NEW Yellow or Green Short Sword.

Assistance Desired

1. I am hoping for trinkets to be made available by the OM's. I'd need 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trinkets on each of the 5 production oceans.

2. I'm hoping to have only the adjectives of 6 sloops renamed by the OM's to "Supreme". Standard fishname will remain.

3. I will need 4 subscriber friends to volunteer with this event. You will need to put an Officer into my crew to job players for the event. Two of you will go on each ship, one to load the guns and one to navigate and fire the guns to mark the turns. Gunners will take screen shots of the final duty reports. You four volunteers will also participate in judging of the entries in "Cream of the Crop" at a later date.

The Pirate Feud

This event will take place on Midnight Ocean. Bar segments will be set in the upstairs of the Palace, Thanos' Mausoleum, on Xi island. The Top 8 scoring teams from Which Team Reigns Supreme will be pre-registered for the Pirate Feud. All other teams, regardless of if they participated or not, will be able to register for the remaining 22 team slots.

We've surveyed 100 players from each ocean. Can you guess the number one answer? Teams will compete against each other in this Pirate version of the popular game show "The Family Feud". You'll be relying on your teammates knowledge of their home ocean and their peers to accurately guess the top answers supplied on those oceans. Although the original game prohibits collaboration between teammates during individual turns, this can not be prevented in the online environment. To allow all teams compete on an equal footing, we will allow collaboration on all answers provided the player whose actual turn it is, makes a decision on the final answer before time runs out.

The top 4 teams will move on to the final competition.

Judging

Teams will compete against each other in a "Last Team Standing" judging process. Actual scores used to determine who progresses. Scores represent the number of pirates in the survey who gave that answer to the question, just like on the original Game Show. There will not be a Bullseye Round.

Prizes

1. Each member of the winning team will received a War Brig on their registered home ocean. (Hopefully renamed Feudal Captain).
2. Each member of the runner-up team will received a Sloop on their home ocean. (Hopefully renamed Feudal Pirate).
3. I may include the same size ship on Ice Ocean as well!

Assistance Desired

1. I would like to have the two semi-finalist teams have a portrait with all 5 team members. However, is it possible for them each to receive a copy of this portrait on their home ocean? I've heard rumors that OM's are able to migrate prizes, but am not sure if it's possible in this scnario. If this is not possible, I'm crossing my fingers for more trinkets or rare artifacts.

2. I hope to receive OM renames of each of the ships to be given as prizes.

3. Forum Event thread stickied and listing on the Home Page.

Cream of the Crop

The top four teams from The Pirate Feud will break back down into individual competition. This final event pits brother against brother and ocean against ocean as pirates demonstrate in a parody exactly what they've learned about their fellow teammates and fellow ocean players. Your entry should not contain any personally identifying information in the body of the parody, or it will be disqualified. Entires should be sent to me via Private Message with your pirate name and registered home ocean in the subject line. I will post these entries anonymously for the other judges consideration.

Judging

Judging will be completed by the 4 volunteers who have helped in the first event and myself. Judging will be complete within 48 hours of the submission deadline. While lighthearted jokes are acceptable, anything we perceive as negative parodies that are insulting to your fellow players/oceans will definitely not perform well in the judging. Criteria is subjective and may include:

  • Sticking to the beat of the original song.
  • Details about the subject.
  • Positive and/or Funny content.

Prizes

I have arranged for an three different rather expensive Avatar Artists to create Avatars for these prizes. I found this rather fitting for a forum contest. The details of these avatars will be completely up to the artist. Although they MAY decide to include your ideas in the creation of your avatar, they are under no obligation to do so.

  • 1st place avatar artist: Llama
  • 2nd place avatar artist: Kingpriam
  • 3rd place avatar artist: Empanado

Assistance Desired

1. I'm hoping for a Familiar for the winner of Cream of the Crop, but it is unlikely. Failing that, I'm hoping for a nice trinket/furniture item/portrait/turtle/pig.

2. Previous 4 volunteers will perform the judging with me.
