Match 247 Bladen Jonsulman
Let Sleeping Pigs Lie

If I could just sleep,
In dreams I would keep,
Like you
I'd jump and I'd leap,
I'd crawl and I'd creep,
It's true.
Around me they'd sweep
On me, leaves would heap,
Accrue.
What good I would reap,
No more would I weep,
Subdue.

Dear pig, were you blue?
Did she bid adieu,
And leave?
Had you naught to do
But eat, sleep and poo,
and grieve?
You try to construe,
Just sit in the dew.
Naive.
But sleep captured you
A heart turned to goo
Aggrieve

My friend, you decieve
yourself to believe
the lie
That you cannot reeve,
That you can't recieve
A bye
We all gain reprieve,
If we can percieve
The sky.
And you can achieve
All that you concieve.
Aim high.

Perhaps that's not why
You sleep in this sty
All day
Did things go awry
for you, in July,
or May?
You won't bat an eye
Perhaps you're just shy,
Okay.
But I will still try
To get your reply
I'll stay

Did you lose your way?
Get caught in a fray?
A brawl?
Your strength would decay
The further you'd stray
you'd pall.
You wandered all day,
To sleep in the hay
To sprawl
Or is this a play?
Do hear what I say -
My call!

The day starts to pall,
You're still so banal,
No peep.
My efforts now crawl
I'm hitting a wall
it's steep
I can't quite recall
Why I'm here at all
this heap.
My speech starts to drawl,
And with you, I'll fall
Asleep.

A Message of Public Import

Of T. Gigantous
The Great Sea Tortoise
I speak.
I cannot enough
This creature discuss.
Unique,
The most tremendous
Of beasts known to us
But bleak:
Its chance of success
Is quite perilous
And weak.

This may seem oblique
But quick let us peak
A bit
At tortoise physique.
When young, she will seek
To sit.
In house she can sleep
And grow old and sleek
And fit.
Dry land now will streak
The turtle antique
To quit.

If she can make it
To sea, she'll transmit
A call.
Male turtles all split
To her side right quick,
Enthralled.
And they go at it
For hours I admit.
From all
The males she will flit
A mother legit,
but small.

To hunger forestall
She'll eat quite a haul:
Haddock,
And tuna will fall.
From her hunting call
They flock.
Soon large will she sprawl
As a brig moor'd tall
At dock.
To safety she'll crawl.
From her eggs risks all
To block.

Her refuge has rocks
And whirlpools: A shock
Awaits
The sharks and the oc-
Topi whom she mocks
As bait.
Though danger still knocks
She races the clock,
Gestates.
But instead of blocks
Young pirates and jocks
See gates!

A game they create:
'Round rocks navigate,
And thus,
Their ships can go straight
Where the turtle waits
Helpless.
When ships hit "home plate,"
The turtle eggs' fate
You'll guess.
This crime must abate!
We must save the great
Tortoise!

Match 248 Sharrac Squidbeard
In the wild of Spring

A curious thing
To see
animals taking
pains to keep waking
they weep
Tiny turtles cling
To almost anything
To keep
Them on their landing
and safe from falling
Asleep

Swimming in the deep,
in ponds with banks steep
and tall
Quietly they creep
never even peep
or call
to themselves they keep
as they pass the sheep
they crawl
Suddenly they sleep
in a verdant heap
they fall.

Then these very small
narcoleptics all,
waking.
Once again they haul
their green selves and all,
making
their way past the stall
wherein the sheep sprawl.
Counting
fleecy numbers all
fast asleep they fall
dreaming.

Many look at me

And my pet and see
Best friends
I won't disagree
But I think that he
Transcends
Mere friendship's degree
And I hope that we
Defend
Our cam'raderie;
And our history
Ne'er ends.

It's become a trend
To see my mates send
Demands.
I know to offend
Ain't what they intend
Or plan.
They want to pretend
That he is their friend
First-hand.
They don't comprehend
He's not mine to lend
Offhand.

You must understand
I cannot command
Him, see?
He is his own man,
Who makes his own plans,
And me?
Just his pal most grand,
First mate of his band,
And we
Are happy to stand
Together on land
Or sea.
