Chapter 1: The protagonist and their bar friends have been pressganged into the Royal Navy to bilge, while the officer taunts them with the fact he stole a sacred cookbook that Louise (one of the bar flies) has in her possession. After some bilging, the barflies complain about Captain Gruel being a bad cook. A pirate attack also shows that the crew has sold ammunition right under Gruel's nose, causing the ship to be unable to fend said pirates off. The officer in charge of guarding the barflies abandons ship and leaves the group to drown. The pirates save them.

Chapter 2: The protagonist wakes up and is told that their barfly friends have jumped ship in the night. They proceed to bilge for Captain Coriander's crew. He talks about a shortage of spices making it difficult to enter a cookoff and asks the whole crew to count up his cargo. The chapter ends after a sailing sequence to catch the ship Monotreme to plunder spices.

Chapter 3: Captain Coriander and crew attack the Monotreme for the spices they are short on, and explains a little more about the Feaster Island cookoff. The protagonist is taught that swordfighting is similar to cooking. He declares that leeks are what will complete his version of the legendary dish mentioned in the sacred cookbook. He then hunts down the ship Gustation to steal leeks.

Chapter 4: Coriander and crew make a stop at the inn to discuss things, and an old barfly overhears them. According to the barfly, the island where the cookoff takes place has been blockaded by Flambe's whole fleet. Coriander agrees that it is unlikely they can get past the blockade as it is.

The crew make their way towards an island where the witch Mesmer lives. Coriander's reason for this is to get a new coat of paint for the ship as well as some new clothes. She teaches the protagonist how to use alchemy, then hands them a whisking potion. She alludes to Coriander's tendency to heavily modify stuff.

Chapter 5: The Coriander crew sneak into the cookoff pretending to be from the Thousand Island Navy with a French accent. Commodore Flambe boasts her best dish is some blackened chicken. Coriander submits the recipe from the sacred cookbook, which is cayenne pepper chicken. In a temper, Flambe declares the contest isn't fair, before running off with Coriander in pursuit.

The protagonist tries to get Coriander to stop, but Flambe has thrown pepper into his face and fights with him, before the protagonist defeats her. She escapes and the Royal Navy surrounds the protagonist and Coriander. After Coriander wishes he hadn't sold his whisking potion for a double broiler, the protagonist hands him a whisking potion and drinks the bottle they had brewed.

They do escape the Royal Navy but land on a deserted island, after which the game ends with a notice that the adventure continues online
