The Naptime Navy is an independent crew on the Emerald Ocean that caters to two groups of people: the personal network of the founder(s), and players who are new to Puzzle Pirates. The former are usually members, the latter are jobbers, though those wishing to join who are not personally known to the membership can apply to do so. On the Viridian Ocean, The Naptime Navy was maintained by Captain Sirpooka and Senior Officer Meekay. They used to fly the flag of The Viridian Avengers.

History

The Naptime Navy has seen three iterations on various oceans but is only operating on the Emerald Ocean as of July 2021. It was stood back up in July of 2021 by the original founder, Qoonpooka.

Public statement

Just some good friends having casual good times, all are welcome on our voyages regardless of skill level.

Recruitment and promotion

Formal membership in the crew is by invitation only, and generally restricted to those known personally to other members. Those outside of those social circles may join by being sponsored by two existing members.

Note that a lack of promotion or rank does not reflect on you as a pirate in our crew. A founding principle of this crew is that all members are equal to one another except by responsibility - rank is given only to enable those given work to do for the good of the crew to carry out their duties. Officerships come with the need for Officer badges, which come with monthly expenses. These officers DO NOT earn more PoE from booty than anyone else, and as such are paying for the 'privilege' of doing work for our community. This is not to be envied. People seen to covet high rank are likely to be viewed with suspicion as they have goals other than the good of the community in mind.

Icon cabin person.png Cabin person: By default, this rank is unused. People down on their luck may linger here a moment until they can afford a pirate badge.

Icon pirate.png Pirate: The base rank for members. No responsibilities attach to this rank, but participation in crew voyages is strongly encouraged.

Icon officer.png Officer: To qualify for officership, a crew member must have a 'Narrow' experience in Duty Navigation and Battle Navigation. No exceptions are made, even if you own the deed to your own ship. We do not require any particular standings for this role, but we do need to see that you've at least been at the helm a few times before we trust you with the keys to our public fleet.

Icon fleet officer.png Fleet officer: Fleet Officers are generally restricted to our PIF security protocol, because of their ability to raid ship supplies. Exceptions may be made for pirates who've sailed with us long enough to be generally considered friends anyway, but as a rule most pirates should not expect to attain this rank.

Icon senior officer.png Senior officer: Senior Officerships are given to those who are meant to have XO authority when the Captain is not online. They are extremely rare.

Viridian Ocean history

The Navy was founded for a number of reasons which include the gathering of friends scattered over the USA, the establishment of a political entity in Viridian which would use its might to become one of the more talked about crews in YPP, and (of course) the accumulation of ludicrous amounts of PoE.

The Navy was in a build-up phase which was expected to last until the end of 2007.

The crew was distinguished from other crews by its organization which was at once more formal and also more efficient than most crews prefer. Officers were not automatically promoted by request, nor were there set prerequisites which may be ground through. It was part of the Naptime Navy's paradigm that officers were expected to be leaders within the crew and were promoted on an as-needed basis. "Too many chiefs and not enough braves," was a phrase often used by the captain to explain the reason for this. It bears noting that this was also at least partially an economic decision, as officers consumed more rum than pirates. The proliferation of pirates also meant the Officer's Club booty distribution didn't heavily draw booty away from jobbers who joined with the crew for pillages.
