is there any proof that these are given out randomly? here's my observations.

  • you are less likey to gain one in a smaller ship.
  • you are more likely if you were outnumbered.
  • you are more likely with no bots on your ship.
  • you are more likely if you hit them with more cannon balls than they hit you.

i have no proof this is all guessing with what i have personally witnessed.

-In my experience, it does kinda seem to be random. I have only got them on cutters and sloops, personally (I haven't tried with a bigger ship), and I did have 1-2 bots on my ship. I don't know whether I hit them more than they hit me, but they had a green might ring, so we wouldn't have been too drastically outnumbered, if we were outnumbered at all. I'm not sure if there is "proof", but I personally would lean more towards 'it's random' than that there are specific triggers. Adrielle =) 06:56, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
I would hazard that - like many other things in the game - it's random with some sort of weighting for various conditions. So it's always random, but you can do things to give you a higher probability. --Belthazar451 08:22, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Text of the Expeditions

Should we add to this page or link to a new page the text of the messages? "Amongst the shattered timbers and corroded cannons, the friendly glint of treasure winks at you from the depths." or "A solemn salute to the lost vessel ye've plundered, then away to the horizon!"?? Expeditions Foraging Differs from Regular Foraging

I am pretty good at Foraging for fruits and such on a Foraging Voyage. However, when on an Expedition I find myself at a loss. If I clear the map before all boxes appear I get a Booch or Poor rating. Yet, sometimes I sit there and play in the sand waiting for boxes to appear and they never do... All the while taking a lot of time... And then when I clear the board I get a poor rating and don't get big boxes.

I've noticed that if I clear the boxes quickly I get a better rating and often a second puzzle. Is Expedition Foraging based only on time? It would be nice if there was some clarification on the rules for expedition foraging vs. 'regular' foraging.

Maps!

I will put in a section about maps from black markets. I might need a picture for it, or you can remove it if it is not neccesary. Thanks! --Wendy20 19:49, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Activation?

There should be something in here about activation of maps that aren't extorted from brigands on a pillage (explorer's hall etc). I haven't found that anywhere on yppedia and still am not sure how. Ideas? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ardent (talkcontribs)

... Put them down on the ship's map table, just like any other map. --Belthazar451 16:53, 20 February 2013 (PST)

Expo Charts Acting Like Route Charts

So I've always understood that "you cannot use an expedition map to chart to the expedition." The expedition is at a non-island LP, and charting has to be island-to-island. But the expo chart does provides blue (charted) LPs for the entire way from the island of purchase to the LP of the expo. If you happen to have the rest of the LPs on the expo's route memmed, then you can sail the whole route.

I bought an IO chart on Admiral (Emerald). It points to the last LP before Scrimshaw. So the IO chart gives me blue (charted but not memmed) LPs all the way between Admiral and Scrimshaw. Because I just happen to have the both island LPs memorized, the IO chart is functioning for me as an interarch Admiral-to-Scrimshaw chart.

I only just stumbled across this off-label functionality with the IO on Admiral-Scrimshaw. Not sure if it's the sort of thing that should be added to main documentation anywhere.

I don't think that specific thing is worth mentioning, but the fact that the expedition map contains all the league points on the route to an island in the first place doesn't seem to be mentioned in the article anywhere. At least for the fixed-point expeditions, anyway. --Belthazar451 21:59, 24 February 2013 (PST)
Thanks--I'll see about adding something to that effect somewhere appropriate. --Vortexae 21:07, 25 February 2013 (PST)

Merchant Hunt == Merchant Brigand ??

Are the "merchants" in a merchant hunt expedition the same as merchant brigands? If so, we should link to that second article (i.e. place a header in that subsection reading "Main article: Merchant brigand", just like we do for Imperial posts and Viking raids). Since I don't know the answer to my question (above), I've not yet made this change myself. I'd appreciate confirmation from any one who does know for certain.

Thanks! -- Franklincain (t/c)

Yes, they are. Chupchup 00:06, 11 June 2013 (PDT)

What of the Yeti?

A friend petitioned to find out whether the Yeti is still in the game - and got the response "Those yetis are rather sneaky."
So.. are these things rare or have they disappeared altogether, what do people reckon?--Therobotdude 15:26, 11 March 2014 (PDT)

I won an expedition today, so I can confirm they're still roaming around, except they're more rare now. --Prory 20:42, 10 April 2014 (PST)

Ice chests

Ice chests are a type of treasure chest. I wanted to create a redirect article, but as of now, there is no information about ice chests in the latter article. Perhaps they should be added. Chupchup 07:36, 10 June 2014 (PDT)

Whoops, I'm not sure why I delinked this (no more early morning edits for me!). Ice chests are a bit like spider boxes - minor objects which could easily be explained away in one line of an article. I agree though, for reference/future purposes it would probably be useful to document them. They seem to be a kind of Strong box/Ship's Locker/Treasure Chest, the sort you would find on a buried treasure expedition, and they only hold PoE. --Therobotdude 18:15, 10 June 2014 (PDT)
