History

A rock on the eastern side of the island reads, "This island were fashioned by Yngvild."

Saltstraumen is a location in Nordland, Norway known for its extremely strong tidal current - in fact, it is the strongest tidal current in the world. The current is strong enough that the moving water can generate whirlpools. It is caused because the incoming tide tries to fill the Skjerstad fjord through a very narrow channel, about 150 metres (500 feet) across.

Saltstraum Rock was the first island on the ocean to have a shack, and so was for a time the sole spawn island for new pirates on the entire ocean, giving it the largest population by a significant margin.
