An elephant is a type of pet. Elephants can be bought from the palace shoppe for 100,000 Pieces of Eight and, on doubloon oceans, 100 doubloons.
A white elephant is a limited edition pet, which is only available for Summer 2007. It can be purchased from the palace shoppe for 150,000 Pieces of Eight, and, on doubloon oceans, 150 doubloons.
Purchasable elephants have a choice of four different skin colors, sixteen different primary cloth colors, and sixteen different secondary cloth colors. There is speculation that Ocean Masters and Ringers can create elephants with black and/or gold coverings.
