Changing pages
Ahoy. There is no need to apologize for changing pages created by other people, they don't really belong to them (read the text below the edit box). So don't let that stop you from adding infoboxes or otherwise improving pages. As for saving old versions, the wiki already does that for you - just klick onto the date field in the history of a page to see the old versions. That way it is easy to undo changes, should they turn out to be unwanted. Happy wiki editing --Alfwyn 11:06, 21 February 2008 (PST)
'Wikified' titles
hi. i noticed you changed the font of titles used by someone i know, but they had their inspiration from me (Owlwhisperer). should i change mine to normal?
- Aye, we like articles to have a common appearance. That includes articles about pirates, but not user pages --Alfwyn 13:31, 21 February 2008 (PST)
ok, done, but it was so pretty :p
Deleted image
The reason that I deleted the second portrait image of Owlwhisperer was because to see addition portraits of a pirate a link is already conveniently provided to any pirates portrait gallery beside each ocean name. This is why we use infoboxes for a pirate page. There is no reason to provide a second portrait on the Yppedia. -- Cedarwings (talk) 19:57, 13 April 2008 (PDT)
- Fair enough, however there was a second image, screen print from the game. Why was that deleted as well?--Saintdiana 05:50, 14 April 2008 (PDT)
- My apologies. I missed the comment about the second image. The image was simply a screenshot of Owlwhisperer's pet cat. There are parameters that exist in the infobox, that I believe you even used at one point, that provide you with the ability to show an image of every available pet in every available color and even list the name of the pet beside it. My intent in its deletion was not to discourage you from editing the Yppedia. I'm sorry if that is what it has done.
- As for the image of the doll, thank you for providing that link regarding using it for a Yahoo signature. I looked around their website for a while and was unable to find anything other then the comment about being able to download it to your computer but not being able to use it elsewhere. Please keep us updated regarding your response from the website. Also best to update the talk page for the image with this information and any further information about it. Fair winds! -- Cedarwings (talk) 01:29, 16 April 2008 (PDT)
Actually, the second image was with me, my cat and a portion of my shack wall (green), all to illustrate that the white colour my pirate was supposed to follow had been ruled out. It doesn't matter much now, since i took out almost everything on the page, but i felt over-censored. Frustrating thing to work so much to find how to use the hidden template (it's not clearly written anywhere), and how to make that separate page, only to have it entirely removed a few hours later.--Saintdiana 01:48, 16 April 2008 (PDT)
I kept looking in the DollPalace site, indeed it's not easy to realize what i can and cannot do. But the first paragraph on the home page (here) says "Our new doll characters include [...]dolls that you can review and get the HTML doll code for your own site or profile." Does this mean i don't have to look further? I do hope so.
- I quote the email i received from the site: "Yes, you can use image for non commercial purposes if you leave the “ Doll Palace ” sign or url on the side of the image intact.-TDP".--Saintdiana 00:55, 21 April 2008 (PDT)
- Thanks for that. I have removed the copyright violation tag from the image. :) -- Cedarwings (talk) 19:40, 21 April 2008 (PDT)
I've revisited the image issue, and I believe it remains a copyright violation because uploading the image to the YPPedia releases it under the Creative Commons license. Only the copyright holder can do that. I've scheduled the image for deletion on July 10th. --Barrister 04:31, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- I sincerely don't understand. I left the image intact, with the website logo near it. You wouldn't consider the email i received (and quoted) as being the explicit permission of the copyright holder? --Saintdiana 07:21, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- Let me open with the old IANAL disclaimer. Basically the issue here is that posting an image on the YPPedia constitutes permission to further distribute it, according to the Creative Commons license. So far as I understand it, the permission you received from the Doll Palace site is permission only to use the image, not to distribute it. You need to contact the site owners for permission specifically with regard to the Creative Commons license. --Belthazar451 07:56, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- Belthazar's explanation is quite accurate. By uploading it to YPPedia, you're doing more than just using the image. For example, the Creative Commons license would allow the image to be adapted or modified. The copyright holder for this image didn't grant that kind of permission. --Barrister 18:56, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
