Game concept
The Object of the game is to shift entire rows and columns of pieces to their edges to line up identical pieces. The use of special pieces and chaining rows offers bonuses to the player's score.
Objective
Fulfill the required number of rows, upon which the round will end, and the player will receive feedback on how well they played
Gameplay
The Player enters the puzzle with a randomised 6x6 board. There will be 24 to 27 occupied spaces, and 9 to 12 unoccupied spaces. There will always be enough pieces to align 3 or more lines.
- The player will use the shifting buttons located on either end of every row or column to shifting the entire line of pieces in that row or column to one end, where empty spaces in the direction of the movement will have pieces pass through them until the piece cannot move due to other pieces or the edges of the board.
- When the player lines up identical, or compatible, pieces the line of pieces is cleared and a notch is added to the player's Labour Bar.
- The recently immediately completed line is then filled with randomised pieces and wilds.
- Wilds such as the Bucket Wild and Immovable Wild will count as any piece of any row, and will also clear with a row, provided all other pieces are identical or wild.
- Immovable Wilds will not move with the pieces in a row that is being shifted, and will stop any piece from shifting past it, and stop all pieces on the opposite side from shifting.
- A Hole cannot shift, and counts as an empty space, any piece that shifts into the same space as a hole is removed along with the hole, and pieces behind the pieces that fell in will shift as normal over the recently filled hole.
- A bucket wild will 'spill', upon being included in the completion of a line, and will changed the pieces orthagonally adjacent to that of the completed line.
Scoring
The Player earns and loses the quality of their score from the following attributes:
- Slowly loses score based on the time spent between moves.
- Loses a small amount of score for every move made.
- Loses score for filling a hole.
- Loses score for filling a hole with a Bucket Wild.
- Gains a bonus for completing more than 1 line at a time.
- Gains score for filling a hole and aligning a row with the same move.
- Gains score for spilling a Bucket Wild and completing a row with the spill.
- Gains score for completing a row without wilds.(???)
- Gains score for completing a row with a single move since completing a previous row. Regular Double, Triple, Bingo, Donkey, Vegas scoring comes in here.
Variability
- 2 to 4 Playing pieces.
- Bucket Wilds
- Immovable Wilds
- Holes
End criteria
The 'Labour Bar' Requirement of minimum of 20-something rows, bearing similarity to the mast in Shipwrightery.
Difficulty scaling
The first time a player began the puzzle begins the first round with just 2 of the Regular Pieces.
- After a few rounds, or appropriate experience in the puzzle, a Third Regular Piece would be added permanently.
- After a few more rounds, the Immovable Wild piece would be introduced, appearing in the game after a specified number of rows have been achieved.
- After a few more rounds, or appropriate experience in the puzzle, the Fourth Regular Piece would be added permanently.
- After a few more rounds, the Bucket Wild piece would be introduced, appearing in the game after a specified number of rows have been achieved.
- After a few more rounds, the Hole would be introduced, appearing periodically throughout the game.
Crafting type
Furnishing, Tailoring. Construction would be possible with special rules that will be noted, with one player controlling the vertical columns, and the other controlling the horizontal rows.
Known problems
The player could spend an entire game not aligning compatible pieces, therein creating a length of time that is not appropriate for the enjoyment of the puzzle.
Notes
- Could use a larger play area
- Could use one less regular piece.
