Founding

The crew Temeraire was flitting around the mind of a pirate named Innosent. The general idea was to follow a similar path to the historic fantasy written by Naomi Novik. Ships represented dragons, cannon balls fuelled fire, and rum was - err - a tasty alcoholic drink that keeps pirates happy.

Somewhere around here Innosent and a fellow rabid dragon fan (Larren) realised that it probably wouldn't make for the best recruiting to always say that the ships were really shape shifting dragons... but that doesn't stop them when people aren't looking.

And such the theory behind the crew was formed. Something was missing, however: ships. So the two hoarded the Pieces of Eight and coveted them like magpies (because everyone likes glittery golden things that go 'chink'). A sloop was purchased, known as the Unchanging Pickerel (and alternately christened Myth). Myth was soon followed by the Thick Sunfish (also alternately named Seketh). The deeds to the ships were held on an alternate account shared by the two pirates.

All that remained was to sort out the internet and the fried modem.

Ideals

  • Thou shalt pillage.
  • Thou shalt be literate.
  • Thou shalt not discriminate against people for their name colour.
  • Thou shalt not use 1347 5p34k.
  • Thou really should not try swimming in the bilge, for it tasteth bad and the crabs wilt eateth thy typing fingers.
  • Thou shalt be thyself.
  • Thou shalt eat imperals for they tasteth good.
  • Thou shalt be loyal to the crew and Pieces of Eight.

Promotions

Captain: If the current captain of the crew is deemed unfit to continue leadership of said crew, a new captain will be appointed. This may be done via mutiny, or a general vote of the crew, petitioned and sent to the inbox of the captain.

Senior Officer: Senior officers need to be able to eat Blaggard or higher ranking AI ships for breakfast without breaking much of a sweat. Alternately, they need to have a lot of common sense and be able to deal with people effectively, keeping the crew together. For appearance reasons, ye also need to have most of yer pirate stats written in bold - we do not want it to seem as if just anyone can waltz up the ranks.

Fleet Officer: Very much similar to the requirements of Senior Officer. Ye need to be able to control yer own ship, and a crew, and be effective independently and in the crew as a team.

Officer: Chances are ye're still being trained or evaluated by the crew for promotion. Ye need to be sensible, and mature enough to own a ship or pillage. (Which means alts sneaking onto yer ship when ye're pillaging to check up on ye, matie!))

Pirate: Ye're subscribed, but we don't know or trust ye well enough yet to let ye take our ships out yet.

Cabin Person: Ask to join, matie.

  • The website should contain all the other information about the crew that might ever need to be known. Ship lists, member lists, forums and events etcetera.
