Craps overview

A craps table as it appears on the casino class war frigate.

In an actual casino, craps players will typically place their bets on a special craps table layout. After betting is done, one of the betting players rolls two six-sided dice in what is called a come-out roll. Depending on what is rolled, zero or more rolls will take place until the winners, if any, have been determined, after which the winnings are doled out.

In Puzzle Pirates, a player "plays" simply by clicking on the craps table. If a pirate attempts to click the table twice in a short time (about four seconds), they will get a message saying "Avast! Keep yer hook off me dice until they cool down a bit!". Unlike parlor games, there is no automated way to bet PoE on craps. Instead, if pirates want to use the table to gamble, the players must all mutually agree, before a player rolls, what the type of betting will be. While this type of betting can be fun, keep in mind that there is no guarantee of a fair payout - be careful when betting PoE on a game like this, especially if you don't know or trust the other players.

When the craps table is clicked, it will produce a message stating the result of the roll of the dice in the form "(Pirate) rolled (X, Y): Z.", where (Pirate) is the name of the player who used the table, X is the result of the first die, Y is the result of the second die, and Z is the sum of X and Y. It will also include a short statement describing the state of the game, from the point of view of the player rolling, assuming that they are using what casinos call a pass line bet. Betting on the don't pass bet is almost the opposite of the default pass line bet, so it's pretty easy to use. To use any other type of bet, however, players should have knowledge of the game beforehand.

The first roll of a game is called a come-out roll. If the come-out roll is 7 or 11, the player rolling wins instantly, and the table says either "Natural seven! A winner!" or "Yohoho eleven! A winner!", respectively. If the come-out roll is a 2, 3, or 12, the player rolling loses instantly, and the table says "Craps! A loser...". If the come-out roll is anything else, that roll is established as the point. The player continues to roll the dice until either a 7 or the point is rolled again. Any other rolls are ignored, and the table says simply "The point be X", where X is the point. If the player rolled the point first, the table says "A winner!", while if they rolled the 7 first, the table says "Seven out! A loser..."

Roulette overview

A roulette wheel as it appears on the roister class sloop.

In an actual casino, roulette players will typically place their bets on a special layout on the roulette table. There are many different types of bets players can make. Once the bets are placed, the croupier (dealer) will spin the roulette wheel one way, and a ball the other way. Where the ball lands determines who, if anyone, wins.

In Puzzle pirates, a player "plays" simply by clicking on the roulette wheel. If a pirate attempts to click the wheel twice in a short time (about four seconds), they will get a message saying "Avast ye! The wheel hasn't finished spinning yet!". Unlike parlor games, there is no automated way to bet PoE on roulette. Instead, if pirates want to use the wheel to gamble, the players must all mutually agree, before a player rolls, what the type of betting will be. While this type of betting can be fun, keep in mind that there is no guarantee of a fair payout - be careful when betting PoE on a game like this, especially if you don't know or trust the other players.

When the roulette wheel is clicked, it will produce a message stating the result of the roulette wheel spin in the form "(Pirate): (Color) (Number)", where (Pirate) is the person who clicked on the wheel, (Color) is "Black", "Green", or "Red", and (Number) is "0", "00", or a number between 1 and 36 inclusive. The possible color and number combinations follow the standard Roulette wheel layout:

  • Numbers between 1 and 10, inclusive, and between 19 and 28, inclusive, will feature black even numbers and red odd numbers.
  • Numbers between 11 and 18, inclusive, and between 29 and 36, inclusive, the pattern is reversed; even numbers are red and odd numbers are black.
  • Numbers 0 and 00 are green.
Number Range Red Black
1-10 Odd Even
11-18 Even Odd
19-28 Odd Even

The following table lists all 38 possible values that can be spun. Each spin of the wheel has an equal chance of being any one of these.
