Talk:QuarterMaster Pirate Helper
From YPPedia
20/2/06 TheBeaver - Added the OP from the forums with edits. Titled and sub headings sorted. Can cleanup tag be removed or is it still in need of work?
- It's an improvement, but it still needs to links to other articles. Also, some of the sections need to be broken down into subsections or paragraphs. For example, The Booty Manager section is very difficult to read. --Barrister 11:46, 20 February 2006 (PST)
I'm slightly concerned that this program may be taking a turn in the direction of Runescape. Is there any way we could get an Oceanmaster approval on the validity, and legality, of this program? (Case in point Rstoolkit) --Twiggy 11:37, 21 March 2006 (PST)
- This isn't quite the right place to raise such concerns. I recommend you contact Three Rings directly via e-mail to their support address. --Barrister 09:46, 21 March 2006 (PST)
- This project has been aprroved by developers ( Lizthegrey ). It is also safe too use ( virus free ).--32083 16:40, 1 April 2006 (PST)
I'm going to try and third-person-ize this. LwoodY2K 07:45, 9 April 2006 (PDT)
- Removed all the 'I' kinds of things. It's still refers to the user directly a lot and is rather colloquial. The colloquial fixing is not something I'm good at, so I'll ignore. The direct reference to the user, though, is really integral to the meaning of the article since it's really the user's manual and not a page on the software. I propose fixing this in some fashion; splitting it in to the 'here's what it is/does' section and then the 'here's how to use it' sections seems most logical to me. Nitpicks with nitpicks
A few of the spelling corrections either weren't correct, or were British spellings (we use "American" spellings, right?). Also, I'm not sure, but with "PayMaster," I'm pretty sure it keeps that caps structure, because...Well, it's "QuarterMaster," remember. :P
Anyway, this article does still have some problems, mainly because it's basically a user manual. I know this would be asking something of the creator, but maybe the manual could be put on oceaneer.com, and we could just have a link to it here, along with less technical information? --Emufarmers 16:41, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
- Alot of the spellings are ambiguous anyway. Paymaster should be like that. Quartermaster should be like that. Humour is always like that. I spent time doing those changes, following no particular Eng/USA spellings. Install Shield is also like that. --Sagacious (talk) 16:57, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
- I would tend to disagree, since QuarterMaster is the given name of the project (like MicroProse). PayMaster is the given name of a specific term within the program. (Remember, this is basically a user manual.) As for "humour"...That is the British spelling (Word lists "humour" as spelled incorrectly and tells you to use "humor"). I believe we use "American" spellings whenever possible (a la labor). As for InstallShield, you tell me. ;) --Emufarmers 17:09, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
3/3/06 Hi, noticed 'opposed' was spelled 'apposed' in the Start-Up Guide part 8. Minor proofreading edit.
Broken download link?
Is it just me, or is the download link broken? When I click on it I get a page that says No web site is configured at this address. --Thefirstdude 8:06, 18 February 2007
- Arr! The same happens for me. If anyone is desperate to get QM for today's blockades - I've uploaded the old installer and update patch to my webserver. --Sagacious (talk) 09:24, 18 February 2007 (PST)
- Ah, thankee. Actually, I discovered I already had the 1.7 installer on my computer (go figure). However, it seems that the QM server[s] are inoperative (I failed to connect several times). In any case, I'll upload the 1.7 installer to my web space shortly.--Thefirstdude 9:29, 18 February 2007
- Aha, the link appears to be working now. -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 21:22, 31 March 2007 (PDT)
Password issues
While the program downloaded and installed for me just fine, I've run into a little problem when trying to run it. (RoninDH on the Sage Ocean) It seems that my password for YPP is too long for the QM program. The QM program only allows you to put in a password that's 8 digits long. My password is longer than that by a few digits. Is this just a glitch or was this done purposedly? I've followed the directions exactly and was wondering is this correction can be added to the QM program, as I've never had the chance to use it before and would really like too, but not too fond of having to change my YPP password right now. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions? Thank you. RoninDH 9:12 PM, 31 March 2007
- This should be in the thread for the program, but I'll answer this here: Your QM password does not have to (and really shouldn't) be the same as your YPP password. QM does not authenticate with the YPP account server in any way. --Thunderbird 19:28, 31 March 2007 (PDT)
Thank ye! Also, sorry about putting it in the wrong area.
QM2!
Nice job on QM2 Tailspin! It has alot more things on it then it did before.
Longship for QM2
I have worked up files to add the Longship to the QM2 profiles and battle calc. (Thanks to Tailspin for some help with this.) It can be downloaded from http://aarghbird.angelfire.com and tested. I would like a few testers before I add it to the main download page. Comments and suggestions can be made here, or the QM2 page, or sent to me at the Forums via PM. Thanks. Battle Calc
Is it just me or if a sloop is fighting a dhow and they ram each other the scores come up 0.3 - 0.5? It should be 0.5 - 0.5 shouldn't it? --DarkAdam 04:40, 25 July 2007 (PDT)
Start Up Guide 2008
The start up guide needed to be updated. They include the instructions "how to link to the yohoho.log" that is required to open QuarterMaster. Officers are having trouble if they do not link to the yohoho.log. I also added a picture. Would like to see the Xebec in the tool soon.--Stormmutant 10:26, 26 June 2008 (PDT)
- There's instructions on the page for how to include the Xebec. Note, however, this isn't the page for suggestions or comments on the program - that's what the linked-to forum thread is for. --Belthazar451 00:20, 27 June 2008 (PDT)
