Talk:Patching

Example links

Following a question in greeter chat (about what to link a player if they ask how to improve at a puzzle), I noticed there are no example links for patching as there are for other puzzles eg. [1] [2]. Would it be helpful if some recent (as scoring has changed vastly since release) videos or other links were provided here for reference? Runescapien 14:52, 15 August 2013 (PDT)

Yes, it would. The probable reason why no one else has done this yet for Patching may be that it is the newest puzzle, and therefore there may not be many such videos available to choose from yet. -- Franklincain (t/c) 14:56, 15 August 2013 (PDT)

Does time affect scoring?

Aside from the need to complete the patch before the wind gusts, is time a factor? I see two possible factors here.

First, other things being equal, does a particular patch score more if it's completed quickly than if it's done just in the nick of time?

Second, if you complete a patch quickly, you get a new board. The score might be based on your per-board average, or it might be based on the total number of points you score. In the latter case, it's worth hurrying to complete a patch so that you can get a new board, even if that means not taking the extra time to upgrade (from Master Patcher to Flawless, for example). In the former case, you could benefit from doing the upgrade, even if it means you complete fewer boards. Gascony 00:46, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

These would probably be questions better asked in the forums. They would receive a wider audience. These talk pages are typically used for topics of improving the article on known facts. Chupchup 02:33, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
1. Yes, time is a huge factor in patching, arguably the most important factor.
2. It is unknown which of those scoring methods is used, however in both cases there becomes an amount of time in which an FMP is equal to a MP, due to the different multipliers they provide. The difference in multiplier is likely 1<x<1.5, this has been loosely proven via experimenting with double patching. Jcmorgan6 08:18, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
Would it be more accurate to say that efficiency is the factor? This would be in line with all other duty puzzles. Chupchup 05:40, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
