Weddings often occur on the oceans. These are purely social events; the game does not provide any indication of a pirate's marital status.
The palace shoppe sells trinkets that may be inscribed and used for weddings. The two available types are bands and gemstone rings.
The Events! forum has a specific thread for wedding event announcements.
Historical Note
For a while, it was possible to request a special ship, the Lovestruck Leviathan, for use in wedding pillages. That service is no longer available.
