Help talk:Language

From YPPedia

I've added categories for English, Spanish, French, and German. I couldn't do Italian, Chinese, or Arabic because I didn't have anyone in-game that could translate stuff for me. =)

This page could possibly be written in other languages, also. – Yaten talk 30 July 2005 12:43 (PDT)

Probably not necessary as the main language of the wiki is english. It looks really good though! --Guppymomma 30 July 2005 12:50 (PDT)

Any way we could get Portuguese added in here? We've got a lot of Brazilian players. --Eurydice 18:47, 15 August 2005 (PDT)

Yeppers. Just gotta figure out what the letters are for it over at Wikipedia. :) --Guppymomma 18:49, 15 August 2005 (PDT)
You rule. --Eurydice 18:54, 15 August 2005 (PDT)

Geographic breakdown?

I'm curious if there are any other major languages we're missing based on the Official:Demographic Information results, but the page we have doesn't detail any geographical breakdown. – Yaten talk 07:45, 16 August 2005 (PDT)

Was geographic area a question in the survey? I don't think it was. It's part of getting an account though isn't it? --Guppymomma 08:43, 16 August 2005 (PDT)
There was, but it wasn't extensive. Since it was a required field, people whose country was not on the list were picking randomly, so I doubt it'd be accurate in any way. --AtteSmythe 13:35, 16 August 2005 (PDT)

I watch the forum for bits...there was a lithuanian post recently. What do they speak there? :) --Guppymomma 08:44, 16 August 2005 (PDT)

Norweian Language Templates

The template currently reads: Denne brukeren har norsk som morsmål, og behersker bokmål. This means: This user is a native speaker of Norwegian, and speaks/comprehends bokmål.

I would recomend removing the part after the comma, as there are two seperate, but equal, norwegian languages: Bokmål and Nynorsk, or change it to ", og behersker bokmål eller nynorsk".

I know this is a minor thing, but it can be misdirecting if the user in question don't speak/comprehend bokmål (A person who have learned nynorsk in school)--Kinocha 01:30, 20 November 2005 (PST)

Sure, feel free to edit this as you see fit (not many people here are as well versed in Norwegian as you :) ) --Nickster (t/c) 13:40, 20 November 2005 (PST)

I agree. Checking out the English Wikipedia, it reads "Disse brukerne har norsk som morsmål."—the official distinction seems to be "no" for Bokmål and "nn" for Nynorsk. – Yaten talk 13:56, 20 November 2005 (PST)

As I don't know how to edit templates, can someone else do it?--Kinocha 15:54, 20 November 2005 (PST)

I've removed the clause after the comma. Thanks for noticing the issue! – Yaten talk 16:12, 20 November 2005 (PST)

Russian

Was wondering. When I tried to do simply ru not ru-4 in User:CaptainDP, it didn't come out right. So, can we get a Russian Native speaker icon? --CaptainDP 12:06, 4 September 2007 (PDT)
