background color

all the other "docked ship" icons use white as the background color. I was not able to figure out a "clean" way to do this with this image that I cropped from a screenshot. so if someone else can, please go ahead and do so ;-) and please consider explaining how you did so, for the edification of others (myself included). thanks!!

The background isn't actually white, it's transparent. A transparent background lets us use the images anywhere on the wiki, with any kind of background, without it getting strange looking with a white square. The actual process for adding the transparency will differ depending on the image editing software that you use. I use GIMP, so the first thing I do is add a transparency layer (which GIMP calls an alpha channel). Then it's a simple matter of deleting out what I don't want, which for this icon was as simple as using a color select tool and then deleting all of that color. It's the same process we use for the vast majority of images on the wiki that aren't portraits or screen images (trinkets, furniture, familiars, etc) --Fannon 13:47, 5 July 2012 (PDT)
