History
A rock south of the left pond in the southern part of the island reads, "This island were fashioned by Waterbug."
This island is named for a Welsh folktale. It was originally known by its Welsh name, Cantre'r Gwaelod, but was renamed a few days after Hunter opened. This was probably done so non-Welsh speakers could spell and pronounce it.
